I'm ready for Resident Evil 7!
Mia hasn’t been heard from since 2014, that is until she sends her husband a message to her husband Ethan that she’s being held captive on a plantation in Louisiana. When Ethan arrives, Mia attacks him, forcing Ethan to kill her. Ethan answers a phone hoping to be able to call for help, but on the line is Zoe, who’s on the property and wanting to help him out. Mia, who’s death didn’t stick very long, then attacks Ethan again with a chainsaw and cuts off his hand before being killed again. Before Ethan can do anything about his hand, Jack shows up and captures Ethan. Jack’s not the only one in the house though, Ethan needs to deal with the whole family, Jack’s wife Marguerite, their son Lucas, and a catatonic old lady in a wheelchair. Then there’s Zoe, who is their daughter, but wants to help Ethan and even staples his hand back to his body.

Welcome to my new home!
Once Ethan finally escapes, he takes Mia and Zoe to a boat to leave, but only one can be cured, the other must stay behind with the family. Canonically he chose his wife and they leave. Mia passes out and awakens next to a wrecked ship and searches for Ethan, but has visions of a child, Eveline, who thinks Mia is her mother. It’s revealed that Eveline is actually a bioweapon and Mia was escorting her aboard the boat they are on now years prior before it crashed and she was then taken captive by Jack and his family. Eveline took control of them and was present in the house as the old woman. Lucas was the only one not affected, since he was working with her creators, The Connections, in exchange for observing her.
Ethan has to stop her, but before he can, she mutates into a large monster. Luckily the military shows up to lend a hand. Chris Redfield throws Ethan an anti-bioweapon pistol that he uses to end Eveline for good, then extracts them away from Louisiana.

Chris Redfield has been replaced and we must find and get the original one
Once Mia and Ethan are safe, BSAA agent Redfield, who’s now working with a new Umbrella known as Blue Umbrella, is looking for answers and trying to apprehend Lucas. He’s also hoping to be able to bring down the Connections too. Chris shoots Lucas, but that only triggers a mutation and Chris needs to stop Lucas’ new monster form before returning to Umbrella’s base.
With Zoe left behind by Ethan, she is attacked by Eveline, but a couple of soldiers find her body and are bringing her back to camp. Before they can though, Joe Baker, Zoe’s uncle shows up and believes them to be the reason Zoe is like this. He goes out searching for a cure, with a newly mutated Jack hunting him. Joe finds a powerful gauntlet that he uses to knock out the creatures in the swamp and eventually kills Jack with it. Zoe is cured by Umbrella and Chris Redfield and gets a call from Ethan where she thanks him for sending help.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard FAQs
Who is Ethan Winters?
Ethan Winters is the protagonist of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village. An ordinary civilian with no military training, Ethan travels to Dulvey, Louisiana in 2017 after receiving a message from his wife Mia, who had been missing for three years. What he finds is the Baker estate, a plantation controlled by a family infected with a bioweapon called the Mold. Ethan is attacked, mutilated, and killed by Jack Baker early in the game, though he does not know it at the time. The Mold resurrects him and keeps him alive through its regenerative properties, allowing him to survive injuries that would kill anyone else. He eventually defeats the Baker family and escapes with Mia, unaware that he is no longer entirely human.
