Fable is an action role playing game. It was developed initially by Big Blue Box Studios, before being purchased and completed by Lionhead Studios and was published by Microsoft Studios (now Xbox Game Studios). It was released on September 14, 2004 for Xbox, Windows, and Mac OSX. Fable Anniversary was released on February 4, 2014 for Windows and Xbox 360.
The game presents many choices for you. Each choice allots you to be a better person or a worse one. Do enough good things and your appearance will give you a halo, but be evil and you will grow horns.
I got one!
It was his sister Theresa’s birthday and our young Hero was off trying to get a present for her when bandits attacked his village. His mom, dad, and sister were all killed and just as he was about to be, a mysterious man named Maze appeared out of no where to save him. Maze takes him to the Heroes’ Guild where the boy spends years training mastering sword, archery, and magic to become a hero.
I'm going to throw a fireball at this big guy!
Once the boy proves himself enough to start accepting jobs from the guild, they inform him that they believe Twinblade, a former hero, was behind the attack on his village. Before he can kill Twinblade, a blind seeress steps forward to stop him. He immediately recognizes her as his sister Theresa. She tells him that she was blinded and Twinblade found her and took her in. The hero can then choose to spare Twinblade or kill him.
You ready to cause trouble?
Twinblade’s defeat earned the hero a reputation and after a few more impressive feats, he’s invited to compete in the Arena. Once he wins in the Arena, the hero meets legendary hero Jack of Blades. Jack tells our Hero that his mother was a hero and arena champion known as Scarlet Robe. He also informs him that she is still alive, but is imprisoned. The Hero goes to free his mother, only to be captured by Jack of Blades who was behind the attack on the village the whole time.
You go right, I'll go left!
One free, our Hero learns that Maze has kidnapped Theresa and was working with Jack. After saving Theresa from Maze, it’s time to take down Jack. Before Jack is defeated, he kills Scarlet Robe. Once killed, all that’s left to do is to destroy his sword or kill Theresa and keep the sword for himself. The canon ending has you destroy the sword.
The Lost Chapters
In the Lost Chapters, after the credits roll, the story continues. If the Hero destroyed Jack’s sword, he has the opportunity to get Avo’s Tear which is similar and has the same power as Jack’s. The main difference between the two is that Avo’s Tear is filled with light, whereas Jack’s was filled with darkness. After doing some quests to find out what new evil has awakened, you discover that Jack is back, this time as a dragon. Once Jack is defeated a second time, you again have a choice to either destroy his mask which is what allows him to keep returning, or wear it and become consumed by Jack.
