Programmers and Server Masters

As a programmer, servers and server people sometimes get under my skin. A while back Dreamhost, my host, changed the way they do php includes, so now instead of something like lepslair/header.php I need to do ./header.php, which is fine and all because I never really did outside includes. But years later, as I am coming into more programming, and wanting to do somethings where I need to bring in things cfrom other sites, I see how I am limited in doing what I want to do.

The same thing goes for the sites I work on. Sometimes the server people don’t feel like installing perl modules, so I need to wait until they get around to it. I just love the ones who don’t understand what I want, or the ones who I ask to install something and they don’t even know what module I am referring to.

I guess sometimes programmers and server masters are just natural enemies

No More Graphics Card Problems

I finally got Krissy’s graphics card to work. I went from 256mb to 128mb. That’s all right, I don’t do much gaming on my PC anyway. Maybe if I get Sim City 4, but I don’t think I need a 256mb graphics card for that game.

In other news I have no clean clothes. It’s hot and I am not wearing pants to go out, therefore I am doing laundry and hopefully we’ll go to the movie tomorrow or maybe even later tonight when I have some shorts.

I like Olive Garden

Dinner tonite was all right. We went to the Olive Garden, they have great bread after all. Krissy got fettucini al fredo and I got chicken parmesian. Even after not eating all day, we couldn’t eat the whole thing. It was good, though.

We came right home, because after we ate, it was 8:30 and we didn’t really want to see a movie. We might go either tomorrow or the next day, I’ll post a review after I see it because someone emailed me asking if it was good.

I’ve never been to Florida but I want to go

Has anyone ever been to Reunion Resort? It looks beautiful there, I’m just wondering if anyone’s had a chance to go there or not. I’ve never been to Florida, as the subject says, but I’ve always wanted to go. I’d ask my parents every year and every year they’d say yes, but we’d never go. So here I am 22 years old and I want to go. I don’t know if it is the fact that I want to go to go, or because I want a picture with Tigger. Gotta love Tigger.

Lately I’ve been keeping track of the Disney News and that just makes me want to go more. I’ve been thinking about how I could save enough money, but I think I’d need to pay off the credit cards first. If and when I do have enough though, I am staying in an Orlando villa.

Graphics Card I need a Graphics Card

This is all messed up I am in desperate need for a graphics card. I can barely see what I am typing. I might try Krissy’s old one again. I don’t think it’s the monitors anymore, I think it’s the graphics card since its happening on both monitors. If anyone has a spare one, or a recommendation for a good AGP one, tell me.

BP was Wrongly Represented

The Chicago Tribune wrote an article on how the company BP was dumping water into lakes in Indiana. I’ve worked for a newspaper and took a couple journalism classes, and let me tell you that the information you read in papers or see on television is completely skewed and not totally objective at all.

First of all, they weren’t dumping toxic waste into Lake Michigan, it was treated water. The waste that they were dumping was completely within the legal limits and it wasn’t going to harm the people or the environment. The Chicago Tribune would have you thinking different though. They would have you believe that there was going to be massive effects to the environment. BP cares about the environment and is always striving to improve the quality of life for those around the factory, nature, animals and humans.

BP produces gasoline, diesel and jet fuel people need for their daily lives. The company is looking to hire 2000 contract workers during the modernization of their equipment. They plan on spending around $150 million dollars upgrading equipment, this way more people can have fuel at a cheaper cost, while not affecting the environment around the company. Everyone needs gasoline right?

The facts here are taken from the BP Whiting Refinery Fact Sheet.

Dinner and a Movie

Krissy and I are planning on going to the Olive Garden tonite to celebrate being together for a year. We might go to see the movie License to Wed after dinner. She loves Robin Williams and I think John Krasinski (the Office) is hilarious. So after dinner tonite we will probably go and see that together. Maybe I will write a review on it when we get home.

Drug Addiction

I got Myspace message from my friend the other day. I haven’t seen or heard from him since eighth grade so I was kind of curious as to what he was up to. Apparently in he made it through high school with honors and went to Rutgers University with a full scholarship. He started hanging out with the wrong crowd in college, though. He started smoking weed and then moved on to cocaine. Huis grades dropped and he stopped going to classes. He was on academic probation for a while, but they finally kicked him out. His brother was able to convince him to go in for drug treatment. He’s been at Brookdale for the last few months, apparently he had heard about me through the grapevine of the computer science department (which is his major) so he decided to look me up on Myspace.

We leave so many people in our lives that we sometimes think whatever happened to them, I think it is human nature that we think the best things have happened to people, but the truth is that we don’t know. I know so many people who have died since high school, and I don’t know how many of them I would think a week, or a month before I heard of their passing, that they are probably all right. The truth is though, that you just don’t know how someone is unless you pick up the phone and call, or send an email.

I think the reason we don’t pick up the phone is because we are scared. Scared that if we call we find out that things aren’t all right. That something bad has happened, and it could throw off our entire perspective of how we perceive that person. If we find out that something has happened to someone we care about that it will somehow change our feelings toward them. That is the reason a lot of people don’t go to funerals, because they don’t want their last memory of the person to be laying in a coffin, they’d rather remember them for the full of life person that they once were, not this cold body in the wooden box.

Myspace Groups

I love the groups that Myspace has, it gives people a chance to come together with the same interests and discuss things that are important to them. I never knew how much work they would be to program something like that. It is probably the most in depth thing that I have done for a site, is create a feature similar to Myspace Groups.

In other work related news, I need to figure out how to make animated gifs into thumbnails using PHP. Anyone have any idea?

Furniture store

I worked in a furniture before. I’ve worked at more than my fair share of retail outlets. I’ve never worked at a place like Gallery Furniture, though. They have vintage elvis collectibles, an indoore tennis court and a daycare to put your child when you are shopping. This isn’t your average furniture store.Houston furniture seems like a cool place to make a road trip for.

One of my favorite pieces that they sell is that desk. It is beautiful, L-shaped with enough room for two monitors, CRT or LCD plus it has draws so you don’t have to keep everything on the desk. It even has a place for the computer tower. That’s is definitely one beautiful desk, if I had the money I’d buy it.

They don’t just sell furniture, oh no. They sell electronics as well. You can go buy a whole theater room from one store. Pick up the television, the seating and the HDMI chords all at one stop. If you are going to be there a while, you can get a free soda so you don’t get dehydrated while walking around their huge showroom. Be sure to bring your peanuts though, so the local birds who live in the store have something to snack on while you shop.

If for nothing else, I would gladly make the trip down to watch the 450 inch television that is always on. I wonder if I went there with my Xbox, if they’d let me hook up and play some Halo on it. Now that would be a great gaming television. I’d love to be fighting the flood on a 450 inch television while having a free soda.

Grr to Bungie

I put Halo 2 into my Xbox 360 and what used to work fine, now has the error that I am missing maps. Now I have all the maps, even the new ones. I don’t know why it is saying I don’t. I even redownloaded them hoping that would make a difference, but all it did was take a half hour to download and display the same message again. I am going to email Bungie and ask them about this, but I don’t know if I will even get a response. Maybe I will poke around the forums before sending an email.

I like the Goth Girls

Before I was dating Krissy, I was on a lot of dating websites. None of them really offered what I wanted, though. I have a thing for goth girls, I don’t know what it is, even in high school I was constantly hanging out with the goth type people. If I was single now I would do goth dating. It is a website that is devoted to the true goth scene and not one of those want to be goths to be cool sites. If your looking for a goth boy or girl, check them out, you won’t be dissappointed.
