Network Security

Krissy told me about a job at her aunt’s job where it starts at $75,000 and the only requirement is that you have a Cisco certification. To me that sounds like a lot of money and I would take it in an instant, if I had that certification. The sad part is that even though I would take it no one else wants it. The starting pay is pretty low for that certification.

Hearing that makes me want to just get my Cisco Certificate and then take a job like that. I know about basic network security, so having a certificate doesn’t seem like that much of a stretch. Now I wish I would have just went and got some certifications instead of going to college and dropping out. Oh ell, I know one day I will both graduate college and have all the degrees I want. It will just take some time.

I am actually kind of surprised that Cisco certifications pay so much, I thought that A+ paid more, but I guess since you are dealing with security with Cisco that could be the clencher on why it pays more. I don’t think it costs much more to get though, so the turn around as far as money paid to salary paid is better. I guess it has to be when you want people to secure the entire network a business revolves around, otherwise people might mess around and pretend to know what they are doing and then get fired, but by paying more they are securing a competent individual to be behind your network.

Zip Files

I didn’t add any pictures today, instead I set up custom PHP.ini file on my account so that I can install a module to unzip zip files. I am surprised that Dreamhost doesn’t have this installed already, I thought I did it before using a premade gallery program, but when I try and program it, it doesn’t work. No matter, if I can get it working then I can just upload the images in zip files instead of individually.

Motorcycles

Krissy’s whole family rides Harleys. My father used to ride a motorcycle. I love seeing the bikes on American Chopper. With all these factors put into place, it is amazing that I never got on a bike to ride. Part of the reason is because I can’t drive a stick and I don’t fully understand how to do it, so riding a motorcycle could prove difficult. I don’t have the money for one, but I was thinking about learning how to change gears on one then maybe renting one and taking a ride on one of those Motorcycle Tours where me and a bunch of other guys ride off to someplace. I don’t know if I could do that though with a bunch of people I don’t know, but maybe if I got some of my friends together it would be different.

Rock Band 2

Rock Band 2 was announced, and while I am not surprised, I am surprised that there is a lack of new instruments. I was expecting like a keyboard or a real guitar to help you learn how to actually play guitar, like the drums help you actually play a drum solo. Even with the improvements that I would have liked to see to the instruments, I think Rock Band 2 might be something that I pick up. The DLC is going to work no matter what Rock Band you have and if I can have a band with people across X-box Live then I think it will be something to pick up.

AbsoluteCalm

I have a hard time relaxing. I am constantly shaking my foot or getting very antsy when I am laying down in bed. It drives Krissy insane, she’s always hitting my leg telling me to stop shaking it because it is usually shaking everything around me. I don’t know where it comes from, I guess I am just nervous or paranoid or whatever you want to call it.

I heard about AbsoluteCalm and I was thinking about picking some up. They say that they are safe for everyone to take and that there are no side effects so it might be worth it to check it out. It might even help me get a good night’s sleep. Maybe if I take them before bed, I would sleep through the night instead of waking up every few hours or so.

They might even help me when I am working, if my mind isn’t all over the place and I am relaxed then maybe I could actually focus and concentrate on what I am doing instead of just sitting here looking at everything except what I am supposed to be looking at. If it helps me concentrate then that would definitely be worth it, everything else it could do would just be a bonus.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures

I uploaded a lot of images into the photo gallery yesterday and I am planning on doing even more today. I should have a few new categories up by tonight, and then hopefully that will get updated on a somewhat regular basis. The only reason they are getting uploaded right now is because I am on the Mac and I can use Photoshop to edit them, plus Krissy had most of them on here that I had forgotten about so they will go up and then I will start to work on the other images I took.

Cisco

Back when I was in college, I wanted to have a degree or a certification in anything and everything I could. I wanted to have a certificate in web programming, A+ and Cisco certification, degrees in Computer Science and Web Design. Looking back I realize how impractical and illogical this is, but I still wonder about some of these things, like the Cisco certification.

I have done some aspects of network security, but that was with the programs and firewalls that I would use to block out intruders from an in house network, I never have done anything more advanced than that though. I would love to do the network security for a huge building, but I would need the network security backround that a Cisco Certification would offer. I think that if I ever do have an in house server then I might pick up a bunch of books on the subject, maybe trying for a certification after I put a full blown secure network together, but I doubt I will do it before hand. That is a dream that is going to have to be put off for a while though due to lack of funs, and the lack of a real need for an in house full blown server.

I may not have the money right now, but I know that eventually I will be able to go back to school, a good school, to get all the training I want and need to do what I want to do, which at this point I am doing, I would just like more education behind what I am doing and where I am going with it all.

RV

I have this dream and I have had it for a while, probably since middle school or maybe even before that, I want to drive through and visit all 48 Continental United States. I originally wanted to do it right after high school, but lack of funds proved to be an issue. Then I met Krissy and shared my dream with her and it went from driving through in a car to driving through in an RV. The dream is still years away, even Used RVs are out of my price range at this point, but I know in my heart that eventually we will be able to do it. Maybe if everything goes well by the time we are 30, but I don’t know about all that now.

One Small Step for Man

I try and get something done for my site at least once a month, though I really want to get something done once a week, if not more. My last two updates haven’t been significant for users, but they have been for me. I had tons of DVDs to actually go through and add and in the latest one I had been able to add it and edit it from the Mac. Over the next week I am going to try and get a lot done on the Mac, email checks, programming, all that, but only if Krissy isn’t going to be using it. The keyboard takes a little getting used to, but I just can’t get the hang of the mouse. I might have to plug in a 2 button mouse so I don’t keep hitting random things.

As for the updates on this site, they may seem insignifigant to you, but I have a whole list of things that need to get done. I am going to attempt to get some work done tomorrow then attempt to work on the Spiderman section, but that may not get done at all. I also have work and pictures to upload for the gallery, but again I don’t know when that will get done. Maybe being on the Mac I will be enticed to edit photos and then jut have to upload them.

It’s Magic

I think the main difference between Harry Houdini and today’s magicians like Criss Angel is the technology used in their tricks. Today everything is more advanced, plus people aren’t in the same mind set as they were in the 1800’s so magic has had to adapt with the thinking of people. The more complex people think, the more complex the magic has to be.

I have always loved magic, I used to love watching the masked magician revealing the secrets of magicians, I wish he hadn’t unveiled himself, but I believe him revealing the secrets allowed for magic to advance in new ways. I have seen some of Criss Angels things, and I have discovere how some of his tricks work. Just because I know how they work, doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to go to the CRISS ANGEL Believe show. It is Criss Angel along with Cirque Du Soleil, so it has to be nothing short of amazing. I think I am going to enter the contest to try and win two tickets to the show. To enter all I have to do is text ‘Believe’ to 22122. It may be a long shot, but it is worth it to try and get tickets to the show.

RIP George Carlin

By now you have heard the George Carlin is dead. He died Sunday night due to heart failure. I, unlike most Americans, was first really introduced to him during his sitcom back in the 90s.He was a brilliant comedian and I am sad there won’t be any more specials, but I hope that his death will bring about box sets so I can enjoy his work anytime I want.

Domain Scorecard

I just took the domain name scorecard from Network Solutions and I really didn’t score that good. I mean granted I don’t actually have a brand of my own and my website is looked at as a business second, but still, my highest score was in the Extension Score category and it was still below fifty percent, which isn’t good, but as I said it isn’t exactly a full blown business per say and I look at it as a business second, if I even look at it that way at all since I am still on the fence about it.

For a full blown business though, the scorecard can definitely help. It will analyze how your website and all the websites you have registered through your business are actually helping the business. It is a very impressive tool and I am surprised that no one has thought of it before. What it does is it will tell you alternate ways of your domain name and explain how your competitors can take the misspelled domain names and make money with them. Since you don’t own the misspelled names then there is no copyright infringement so it is perfectly legal for them to do that and a lot of businesses do it so they can outsell their competitors.
