D23 is described as the ultimate Disney Fan Event. Opening night was last night and they showed clips and previews for a lot of movies and shows that will be coming out in the next year. We’ve seen Lilo and Stitch, a new Captain America trailer, Moana 2, and a lot more. Marvel’s cartoon division is set to have a panel later today that is going to show off their new Spiderman show, Wakanda Forever, next season’s X-Men 97, and more.
I love X-Men 97 and was a huge fan of the original show in the 90s, but what I loved more was Spiderman. Yes they have a new Spiderman cartoon coming, but what about Spiderman 98? The last time we saw him in his original series, Madame Web was going to take him to find Mary Jane Watson, who disappeared after a fight with Green Goblin. (That fight was a nod to “The Night Gwen Stacy Died” comic story arc.) Then X-Men 97, we see Peter and Mary Jane as the world is falling apart. What happened between the two?
John Semper Jr has revealed in the years since the series ended that Mary Jane would be found in a Colonial England reality. Even though X-Men 97 and Spiderman 98 were part of an animated universe that contained other shows like Avengers: United They Stand, Iron Man, and Silver Surfer, using it to wrap up other series’ finales is not the best idea, which is why I think they need to bring the series back. Even if the series revival was just one season, I think Marvel Studios would make a lot of money on it. Spiderman has only gotten more popular since then and with how popular X-Men 97 is, it makes sense to expand on that universe.
Like I said earlier, I know they have a new show, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man already announced and will be showing that off later today, but we can have more than one Spider-Man animated series at a time, the Spider-verse movies have shown us that. If one movie can have thousands of versions of Peter Parker, then we can handle 2 Spiderman shows.
