The polls I have on my website serve a purpose. They allow me to see what the main demographics of my website are. For example I can tell you that a majority of my visitors are female from the middle of the eastern side of the Unites States and are between the ages of 18 and 24 years of age. Why is this information important? Well now that I know that I can start making content revolving around those kinds of visitors. I can even start advertising to visitors like that type. How do you advertise to specific types of visitors? Why through email marketing.
What you do is find consumer lists that offer an email marketing based system for what you want. A lot of places have stuff like age, gender, location, length of residence, income and many others to choose from. In this case we would want to find it for women on the Eastern Seaboard who are just over the age of 18 but under 25. If we could select individual states that would be good too, since a lot of my visitors are focused in and on those states that are part of and bordering the Delmarva Peninsula.
On my end for content the information helps me because I know that my visitors who come are women. That means I wouldn’t want to put up anything that might change that demographic, if that was where I wanted to be. If for say I wanted to appeal more to guys then I might put up some pictures of women who are wearing almost nothing, but because I am happy with the demographic and see nothing wrong with it then I don’t think anything drastic needs to change. Women are the majority, but that doesn’t mean that men are missing completely, after all the polls only cover the main site, the fanlistings are completely different and the polls don’t cover them at all.
