In 1989, Henry’s wife develops early-onset dementia and is taken from Colorado back to her family in Australia. He starts working in Shoshone National Forest as a fire watcher. There he meets his boss over the radio, Delilah and the two form a fast, flirtatious relationship. Strange things start happening to Henry, a couple of teens’ campsite was ransacked and they left a note blaming him, communication lines were cut, etc. Both Delilah and Henry start getting worried when the teens are reported missing.
One day Henry finds a backpack belonging to Brian Goodwin. Delilah tells him all about Brian and his father Ned and how one day they just up and left. Things start getting weirder for the two when Henry finds transcripts of their conversation. Henry noticed an area listed and decides to go check it out, but discovers that there’s fencing all around the area. He breaks in to find that whoever this is has been watching them all summer. They discuss burning the camp to the ground, but decide against it. While leaving the area, it is set on fire with no explanation to be found.
Henry uses a tracker he found at the campsite to locate a key to a mysterious cave. Once in the cave he discovers the body of who he believes is Brian. He appears to have fallen while climbing down the cave and died.
The fire from the camp is growing rapidly and they are preparing to evacuate. Before Henry can get out, the tracker starts going off again, when Henry follows it, he finds a makeshift bunker and a confession from Ned that it was him all along and that he just didn’t want them to find Brian’s body. Henry tells Delilah about it and she starts to blame herself since Brian wasn’t even supposed to be there and she allowed it to happen. She decides it’s best for her to evacuate and for Henry to get to her tower to leave. Once there he and Delilah say their goodbyes.
