Lifelock Webby Awards

The nominees for the 2008 Webby awards have been announced. Among the nominees are lifelock, which will protect your identity to the point where you could actually give your social security number to strangers on the street and not have to worry. The reason they were nominated is because they rely on their website as their main source of getting the information out there. While the television commercials help get their name out there, the website really tells you how they do it and encourage you to sign up via their website. It is fitting since a lot of identity theft is used to purchase items online since it is harder to catch someone online than if they were in a store using a card in your name.

Carts

I am trying to figure out how to write a shopping cart script that will work with PayPal. So far I can’t figure it out, I think I am going to have download one and then see how it is done. It disn’t so much getting it to PayPal, it is making it go from a successful payment to an invoice number. I am going to try and get that done today.

Atlanta Tours

I have been thinking about booking a tour with Trusted Tours & Attractions. I have been to New York a few times, and I love it there. There are always going to be things to do in New York that you can’t do in other cities, but I think I would go visit a new city, like Philadelphia or Atlanta.

I think Philadelphia would be a great place to visit because it has so much history that is tied to the hisory of the entire country, and Atlanta I have wanted to visit since I saw it in an episode of Futurama. I am sure there are more Things to do in Atlanta than just taking a tour of the Coca Cola plant and the airport, but maybe it is one of those things that you have to be there before you know what to do.

I signed up for the Trusted Tours & Attractions newsletter because I love to travel and also they are giving away a $150 itunes gift card. Who knows, in the coming months I might be on sightseeing tours in some city in the US, I just need to money and figure out where I really want to go.

Women Ugh

Why can’t women say what they want? If a guy was asked what he wanted he would tell you, a woman will put out signals and signs. Why can’t women be more direct?

I am usually good at picking up signs when I know I am supposed to be looking for them. Anniversaries, birthdays, Christmas, I know I need to be looking so I pay close attention to signs that Krissy leaves. It is when I am not looking for signs that I have a hard time picking up on them. Like today she wanted Chinese food for dinner, she won’t say what she wants, she just wants me to know. After about two hours I figured it out, but why can’t women just say what they want?

GPS

When I get a new car, I am going to get one that has GPS Tracking. The reason is that it would lower my rates and it will help me retrieve the vehicle if it gets stolen, or even misplaced at the mall. That has happened before, we were all ready to have the car reported stolen and it was just in another parking lot. With it I would never need to worry about making that mistake again.

Robocop Remake

Apparently a Robocop Remake has been announced as in development over the weekend. After six not so good sequels, along with a television show, I think it is about time. I loved Robocop, and there is some good stuff in the sequels. Honestly I think there’s only two things in the movie sequels that were good (when Robocop tells his widow that they made him to honor her husband, and the death of his partner, Lewis). As for the made for TV movies, they were all right but half way through it turned into another movie all together, featuring Robocop and his new Robo buddy. A reboot might just be what the series needs, but if they decide to do sequels to it hopefully they won’t be as bad as the previous ones.

Web Hosting is Important

On a subdomain I have been creating a script for a client and it wasn’t until then that I realized how important it is to have a good host when you are trying to get things up and running as quick as possible. You don’t know how many times I get annoyed when I am uploading something through Dreamweaver and it is taking forever to complete. Of course when you are going at a good speed and you have to wait for the FTP to finally start working you get distracted and you loose the momentum that you once had.

To be quite honest I am a very loyal man. I am loyal to the people that I trust, the people that I like, my girlfriend, and even though they may have a less than perfect track record, companies that I have been using for years. I have been using my host for years, ever since I first put up my first page on Lep’s Lair. Back then though I didn’t realize how different hosts were. I saw someone who had it and I had gone to her site for years so I signed up without reading any web hosting reviews or anything.

If I was in the market for a new host today, things would be different. I wouldn’t just be reading reviews on their sites, I would be looking for sites specifically for host reviews. Back when I signed up, I didn’t realize how pivotal a choice of choosing web hosting could be. Really it could make or break your business. Of course back then I wasn’t really looking to start a business or anything like that, I just wanted to be able to put PHP code up, who knew years later it would turn into this big thing?

If my site gets bigger and I am making more money then I might consider switching hosts. I have been keeping up on web hosting articles, just in case I have to switch down the line.

Is it Feeling Abandoned?

I am feeling as though I have abandoned my website. I still post blogs, but besides putting up the Girl of the Moment there really isn’t anything new here. I have something about 95% done, and I have loads of pictures to upload, but I have been extra busy with work these last few weeks. I am working hard on two clients right now, one is almost finished, the other one is only finished when they decide they don’t want any more new stuff added right away. Don’t get me wrong I am juggling my time fine, it is just that when I am not working I can’t bear to look at a screen and I usually go lay down or go somewhere with Krissy. I also sometimes just turn the chair around to watch some television or play some GTA4. Don’t get me wrong, the stuff that is almost done will get done and eveythign I want up will be up… eventually.

Office Spinoff

I am a huge fan of the Office. There have been talks and from what I hear finalisations being made for an Office spinoff. Here is what I think would be the possible spinoffs and how good they would turn out.

Andy
An Andy spinoff might be funny for a few seconds, but when you realize that he is a more obnoxious version of Michael then I think all you have is an Office 2.0, with a different location. I think a spinoff would do better if it was completely different with the same humor, but not the same situation.

Dwight
Dwight on his own without Michael might be funny. Maybe have him running his own branch and him changing his goal from protecting Michael to taking him down since the branches would be in competition. I don’t think they would take away from the Michael-Dwight, Dwight-Jim chemistry they have perfected though. I also don’t think they would when there are obviously still feelings there for Angela.

Kelly and Darrel
I think this show could only last as long as the relationship does and I don’t think that would be very long considering Kelly seems to only be using Darrel to get Ryan jealous, but that doesn’t seem to be going very well. I think Darrel would end up killing her, or himself before the end of the series

Jan
Now that she doesn’t have Michael in her life or a job, it is time for her and the twins to go back out into the working and dating worlds. I think this show might do fairly well, maybe she ends up working at a Staples or something trying to make her way back up to the top. I think this show might do fairly well if they bring in the anti Michael for her to date.

Jim and Pam
If you’ve been watching the show the last few weeks you know that Jim is going to ask Pam to wait for him to tie his shoe. I think a show that focuses on the two of them might do fairly well, but it wouldn’t have the same impact as where they work together in an office having to deal with so many outside distractions to their relationship. I think the Jam supporters would tune in and I think it would be fairly popular, but I don’t think they would take Jim away from Dwight and loose that chemistry.

Ryan
Ryan in rehab might be funny. Maybe upon loosing his coke addiction he starts talking about Michael but nobody believes that a boss could be like that. I think the first season would play out like the Simpson’s episode where Homer is saying his problems are because of Bart but no one believes there’s a Bart until Marge mentions it, I think having the orderlies convince Ryan that Michael is in his head would be interesting and then have Michael showing up toward the end of the first season and putting him back to square one would be pretty funny. I think if they did a spinoff on Ryan it would be fairly successful.

Stanley, Kevin, Meredith, Tobey, Oscar, and the rest of the Dunder Miflin Scranton employees
These are all great characters, but I am not sure how they would play out in a series all their own. I mean Stanley leaves the show without a token black guy, but the black guy isn’t as token as Michael would like.

Kevin just seems very content at Dunder Mifflin so I don’t see him going anywhere.

Meredith might be pretty interesting. Maybe having her as a wannabe pornstar or stripper. Maybe even a hooker in her mommy van, there are some possibilities there.

Oscar as he puts it, besides having sex with men the Finer Things Club is the gayest thing about him. I don’t know if I see a series working for him unless he is the straightest gay man in a gay resort town type thing.

I don’t see how a spinoff could work for anyone else currently employed at Dunder Mifflin. I don’t think it would be Karen as the actress is on another show at the moment, and I don’t think the fans are too happy with Roy after he tried to kill Jim. Only time will tell I suppose on which Office star will be getting their own series.

DeathNote

The Movie DeathNote looks pretty interesting. It is another unrated movie, but it is in the horror genre and therefor should be treated like an R rating. It is based off the popular manga that tells of the story of Light Yagami, an ace student who finds a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god named Ryuk. Anyone whose whose name is written in it dies, and Light has a plan to use it against evil. Criminals randomly dropping dead doesn’t go unnoticed, and soon cops are onto Light and it soon becomes a battle of which side is really good and which side is really evil.

I’ve never seen the manga, honestly I am not too sure what a manga cartoon is, but the story sounds interesting. Seeing the movie in theaters seem to be hard to do, as there is only select theaters showing it, but when it comes out on DVD then I will definitely check it out.

Should Have Brought the Camcorder

Krissy and I headed down to the beach tonight and the sight before us shocked me. It was the one time that I actually wished that I had brought the video camera with me. The storms this last week completely tore down the fencing and the ocean took down the dunes, there was literally about two feet more beach than normal. It is pretty strange what’s going on with all the weather related incidents happening lately. If only someone would have said something about Global Warming years ago, maybe it wouldn’t be this bad.

Jitterbugs

My mother can’t figure out how to use her cellphone. She has had the same type of phone for over ten years and still she can’t seem to place a call on the first try without first messing something up, hitting the wrong number, or going into another option on the phone. The problem is that even though the phone is essentially the same design from ten years ago, it has gotten much smaller than the original model and the buttons and screen have gotten smaller along with the phone.

I told her about the Jitterbug a few months ago and she certainly was interested in a larger phone. She doesn’t use the phone like a young person would, so having only 60 minutes a month wouldn’t be bad for her, in fact if they offered less than that then it would probably be better, but 60 minutes for $20 a month isn’t a bad deal, especially for the amount of time she would use it. I think that she might switch over to one when her current contract runs out. I might buy her the lanyard that goes around her neck since she would most likely throw it in her purse and not be able to find it when it rings. If it is n a string, even if its in her purse she would just need to pull the string and out comes the phone.
