I’ve been trying to get better SEO going on my site. When I added the games section I thought for sure it would be a big boost, but it seems that Google keeps finding and crawling the pages, but not actually indexing them. I’ve been in meetings with SEO companies and even though a lot of things were discussed through these months of meetings, crawling, but not indexing was never brought up. I have Yoast SEO installed and have been going through SEMRush, with no idea what is wrong. My best guess is that there’s a lot of thin content, meaning that the content that I have isn’t enough meat to it. Some of it is years old at this point though. The new stuff, though, that’s where my main concern is. Stuff like the games section, where I make the pictures and write the summaries and eventually will be including Youtube, clips, etc from my playthroughs itself. That is my biggest concern right now.
Over the next few weeks I will be going and modifying things and resubmitting URLs in the hope that I can bring the non-indexed pages down dramatically. It looks like when I tell Google to reconsider, they get indexed. That may seem like a pretty straightforward solution and it may very well be if it was a handful, but this is thousands of URLs. As far as I can tell, there is no easy way to submit them all for reconsideration, so doing it manually, piece by piece seems to be the only way to do it.
What this means going forward
With my focus more on SEO, you can expect more writings from me. I suppose with me writing the games stuff a lot lately, I’ve already been writing more. I am wanting to do more than just the games though, I want to do reviews and more articles and even more writing out things for TikTok and Youtube. I’ve been saying how if I am going to do reviews I need to at least finish up the games stuff, I’ve even held off starting new games and storylines until I can at least complete the Resident Evil Series, but my goal is to finish Revelations and Revelations 2 this weekend. I was planning on writing Revelations article tonight, however I started getting frustrated with the SEO stuff and seeing that it might be due to “thin content” so here we are. What does all this mean exactly? I am not entirely sure. If my brain allows (damn ADHD with executive dysfunction) it means that my content on here will be much fuller while also branching out and doing more elsewhere. If it doesn’t, well then nothing will change and it will be months or even years until my next update. Maybe I should just post this stuff on stream, do a whole writing stream, that would be different and possibly keep me focused. I’ve mainly just streamed playing games, but streaming writing about them, since I love writing, could be a whole new thing for me. It’s certainly something to ponder about.
