They tell you to stick to your niche. What if you can’t have a niche, you start to have one and then in a few days or even hours, you’re bored? Welcome to the world of ADHD. We hyper fixate on something, learn all we can, then get bored of it. A lot of times it seems that researching and learning is more enjoyable than doing the actual thing itself. Something that once gave us dopamine no longer does so we move on. So what are we to do?
Honestly I think that’s why so many people’s niches (mine too I believe) is ADHD itself. When we can use ADHD as a niche itself, we can encompass a lot more things into it, like all of our current hobbies. For the longest time I tried to make my niche be geeks and nerds. I realize now that yes, that can be a part of it, but my real niche is ADHD. It’s why I can’t stick to one game when streaming. It’s why my Tiktoks, Youtube Shorts, and Instagram Reels are about anything and everything. ADHD has literally been my entire life.
If you don’t have ADHD then you probably think I’m overexaggerating, but for those of us who have lived with it everyday since we’ve been born, let me tell you I’m not. It’s been there in school. It’s been there in jobs. ADHD is always there. Money doesn’t motivate us. Consequences don’t motivate us. For us, the only thing we want is that sweet release of dopamine.
What is Dopamine?
Dopamine is a type of neurotransmitter. Your body makes it, and your nervous system uses it to send messages between nerve cells. It allows people to regulate emotional responses and take action to achieve specific rewards. It’s responsible for feelings of pleasure and reward. While researchers once believed people with ADHD produced less dopamine, new research says different. Now it’s believed that we may produce the same amount, but lose it too quickly. That may explain why we lose interest in things and depression is common in people with ADHD.
This blog (though I am hating the word blog lately since it’s more news and rumors) will continue to be the most random of stuff, from life stuff to articles and other things I find interesting. That’s why I’ve been writing about Dead by Daylight lately, it’s one game I can have fun with when I have the right people around. There will probably be a lot more game articles with the Summer Game Fest coming up though.
Are you neurodivergent? Do you have ADHD? How does it affect your life?
