The team decide to learn more about the project and head to Old Haven’s old Atlas facility. On the way there, they are attacked by Helios’ cannon and Rhys and Vaughn get separated. As they go through the desert, Vasquez confronts them, but they escape with help from Jack and a Loader Bot.
Fiona and Sasha meanwhile, head to Scooter, a mechanic, to fix their caravan. While they wait for the repair, they head to Felix’s and discover that he betrayed them to protect them. August’s boss Vallory is not one to cross paths with. Not long after learning about her, Vallory’s thugs Finch and Kroger, along with Vault Hunter Athena attack them. The pair escape and head to Old Haven, with Athena on their tail.
At Old Haven’s facility, they meet up with the other group, but soon they are ambushed by Vasquez and August. They force the group to construct the Gorty’s unit, but before they can, Rhys accidentally triggers the security system. With this distraction, the group escapes, only to be cornered by Vallory outside. She kills Vasquez and is about to kill the others, when Athena saves them and forces Vallory, August, and the gang to run away.
Athena tells them that Felix hired to protect Fiona and Sasha. Fiona decides to activate Gorty’s unit, which turns out to be a robot. Gorty tells them that it was created to locate the teleporting Vault of the Traveler, but Athena ended up killing all the Atlas employees before they could complete her. The group has to complete the robot in order to find the Vault. Once they get the upgrade for the robot, they are captured by Vallory. Brick and Mordecai take a defeated Athena away, while Gorty is forced to tell Vallory where the her next upgrade is.
Vallory forces Rhys, Fiona, Loader Bot, and Gortys to break into Handsome Jack’s old office on Helios to get the upgrade. They are accompanied by August, Finch, and Kroger to ensure everything goes smoothly. Sasha and Fiona’s caravan is converted into a spaceship by Scooter to get them there. Scooter comes along for the ride, but sacrifices himself to prevent the ship from blowing up.
Eww, who let them in?
Once they get to Helios, Rhys is disguised as Vasquez and Fiona is a Hyperion tour guide. When the plan fails, Rhys has to break into Jack’s office through a trapdoor. Once they have the upgrade, Jack offers Rhys control of Hyperion, but Rhys declines. He then forces Rhys to upload him to Helios.
Handsome Jack attempts to control Rhys’ body by forcing a robotic endoskeleton in him. The others take the upgrade to Helios’ hangar. Rhys decides to crash Helios into Pandora. August, Finch, and Kroger turn on the others and plan on leaving them to die. Loader Bot sacrifices himself to ensure Rhys and Fiona can escape.
Even with Helios crashed into the planet, Jack downloads himself to Rhys’s cybernetics and tries to take him out. Rhys removes the cybernetics and destroys Jack by destroying his eye implant.
Vallory, now having a complete Gortys, opens the Vault, but as she does, the Traveler kills her. Gortys tells Fiona and Sasha that by destroying her, it will close the Vault and banish the monster.
In the present, Vaughn has become the leader of Helios’ survivors. He ends up capturing the stranger and it’s revealed to be Loader Bot. After the crash, he saw Gortys destruction and felt betrayed. He rebuilt himself using Jack’s endoskeleton to get the truth. He asks them to rebuild Gortys, kill the Traveler, and free Gortys. Gortys is rebuilt and they kill the Traveler. Rhys and Fiona enter the Vault together. They open a chest and are teleported to somewhere unknown.
