Myst is a graphic adventure puzzle game. It was designed by Robyn and Rand Miller. It was developed by Cyan, Inc and published by Broderbund. The original game released on September 24, 1993 for Mac OS, in 1994 for Windows 3.1, Sega Saturn in September 1995, Jaguar on December 14, 1995, and Playstation on September 30, 1996. It was the best selling PC game of all time until the Sims broke that record in 2002. On August 26, 2021 a Myst remake was released for PC, Mac, Oculus, and Xbox One and Series X/S.
Let's turn that dial thing
When an unnamed person discovers a book called ‘Myst’ they are soon transported to a mysterious island with no way to escape. With no other option, you set out to explore the island.
The story is conveyed through Myst’s environment and the exploration of books that link to different Ages, each with its own unique landscape and puzzles. The puzzles range from sound puzzles, to math puzzles, mechanical puzzles, and everything in between.
You eventually come across two books, that are prisons for Sirrus and Achenar. The two individually ask you to bring them red or blue pages for their books so that they can finally be free. The player must solve puzzles on the island in order to discover other worlds where these pages are hidden.
On one of the final puzzles you discover another book, this time container their father, Atrus who sets you off on one final puzzle to find a special page. Before leaving, he gives you a warning not to help his sons escape.
The game has multiple endings, if you help either son escape, you then take their place and are trapped in the book. If you touch Atrus’ book without the final page, you are then trapped with him. If you touch his book with the final page, you are then transported back to the island of Myst and are free to roam around.
On my playthrough, the game got glitched and I could only give the page to Atrus and not either brother, so I could only get the two endings instead of all four.
