Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is an action role playing game developed by Square Enix and Jupiter Corporation. It was published by Square Enix and Disney Interactive. The game was released in Japan on November 11, 2004 and North America on December 7, 2004. Initially it was developed for the Game Boy Advance. The game was remade for the Playstation 2 and titled Re:Chain of Memories. The remake was released in Japan on March 29, 2007 and in North America on December 2, 2008. The remake was included in Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix for the PS3 and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix for PS4 and Xbox One in March 2017.

Following the events of the first game, Sora, Donald, and Goofy are led to Castle Oblivion by a mysterious hooded figure. Upon entering, they begin to lose their memories. They soon discover that the castle is controlled by a group of shadowy individuals known as Organization XIII.
As they progress through the castle’s floors, they encounter familiar faces from their past, but their memories are twisted and manipulated by the castle’s powers. They learn that a girl named Naminé is responsible for altering their memories, but she is being forced to do so by Marluxia and Organization XIII.

Meanwhile, Riku awakens in the castle’s basement after being transported from the realm of darkness. He must confront his inner darkness and seek redemption. He is guided by a mysterious voice, later revealed to be King Mickey. Meanwhile Ansem is still possessing Riku and tried to regain control, but Mickey is able to keep him back.
As Sora and Riku progress through the castle, they must confront the Organization’s members and their own memories. Eventually, they learn that the hooded figure who led them to the castle is actually Marluxia, a member of Organization XIII who seeks to overthrow the group’s leader.
In the end, Sora defeats Marluxia. Sora has the opportunity to regain his lost memories, but in doing so, his time in the castle will be forgotten. They decide to get the memories back and in doing so must go to sleep for a while. Sora and Naminé make a promise to meet again once he wakes up. Sora believes his heart will remember her, even if his mind forgets. Meanwhile Riku manages to overcome his darkness and leaves the castle with King Mickey.
