Hi-Fi Rush is a rhythm based action game. It was developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks. It was released on January 25, 2023 for Windows and Xbox Series X/S. The game was announced during an Xbox Developer_Direct that happened on the same day as its release.
Chai, what is that thing?
In Hi-Fi Rush, players take on the role of Chai, a 25-year-old man with a disabled right arm and a dream to become a rockstar. He volunteers for Project Armstrong, a cybernetic limb replacement program at Vandelay Technologies, but the CEO, Kale Vandelay, secretly labels Chai as a “defect” after an accident during the process.
Chai discovers that his new arm can deploy an electromagnetic grabber stick, and he uses it to create a guitar-like weapon. He meets a robotic cat named 808 and an unseen ally, Peppermint, who help him escape the facility. They form a reluctant alliance and uncover a conspiracy involving Project Armstrong and a mind-control AI called SPECTRA.
Stand tall, Chai!
The duo recruits more allies, including Macaron, the disgruntled former head of R&D, and his psychology robot partner CNMN. They also recruit Vandelay’s security head, Korsica, after Kale attempts to kill her for discovering SPECTRA’s true nature.
As the group pursues Kale, they learn that he plans to use Project Armstrong to control users’ purchasing habits and relieve the stress of consumerism. The team confronts and defeats Kale, shutting down SPECTRA using passkeys and Korsica’s password.
Let's rock out!
After the main story, Chai and his friends discover a second SPECTRA unit, which was set to restart itself as a backup plan. However, the AI is inadvertently turned off by a cleaning robot that unplugs it.
In the end, Chai is offered a job at Vandelay Technologies, Peppermint reconciles with her mother, and the group enjoys a sunset as Chai practices playing guitar.
