Balatro is a roguelike deck building video game. It was developed by solo developer LocalThunk. The game was published by Playstack for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, PS5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on February 20, 2024. It was released on March 1, 2024 for the MacOS. On September 20, 2024 versions of the game were released on Android and iOS. The game is a single player game where you use poker hands to score a minimum number of points in under a certain number of hands. In the game, you can use different cards to increase the base points you score. You use Celestial cards in the game to level up the poker hands. You can purchase vouchers to modify core mechanics. Joker cards affect the game in various ways, like giving more money at the end of the round, the number of discards or cards you hold, etc. You can purchase playing cards that have special attributes attached. Finally tarot cards can be used for one time effects, like turning one card into another, creating random joker cards, etc.
