In a few hours, at 6AM Eastern on September 17, 2026, Xbox will be doing a showcase at Tokyo Game Show. Not much is known regarding what they're going to show, but I have an idea about two of the games I think they're about to announce.
Xbox had their big showcase in June and I was expecting these there as well, but it didn't happen. I suppose now would make more sense rather than June based on recent events. I think they are finally going to announce Stellar Blade and Death Stranding 2. While both are currently PlayStation exclusive, there are reasons I would expect them to be at this event.
Will Stellar Blade Come to Xbox Game Pass
When Stellar Blade was first announced, that wasn't its name. They revealed the game under Project Eve. During its reveal, they said it would be available for Xbox. The developers have played coy about it expanding off PlayStation for a while, but then earlier this year they announced the game for Nintendo Switch 2. They haven't said anything about an Xbox version though. A few years ago, another developer did that as well. They showed up for Nintendo in April or May and announced a huge game for the system, then didn't mention Xbox at all. Then in June, at their Xbox Showcase that game was finally announced. The game? Final Fantasy VII Remake. I think they could be attempting to recreate that for the Japanese market. If the game came to Xbox, especially if it was a Play Anywhere title, I would absolutely check it out.
Is Death Stranding 2 Coming to Xbox
When Death Stranding dropped on Xbox there was no announcement prior. After years of being a PlayStation exclusive, Death Stranding was randomly shadow dropped on Xbox. Kojima and Xbox have a good relationship, so good that after PlayStation dropped Physint, Xbox picked it up. They already were going to be publishing their next game, OD and now they will have 3/4 of Kojima Productions games on their platform.
Why Does Xbox Care About Tokyo Game Show?
The Asian video game market is huge. PlayStation and Nintendo dominate that market though. Xbox has never been able to break into it in a meaningful way. Having Asian developers like Shift Up and Kojima Productions on their platform, especially in Kojima's case as exclusive, is big for them. This year is Xbox's 25th anniversary and under a new CEO, they are making changes. After bringing back exclusives and bringing players features that have been requested for years, it would make sense that they would show up in the biggest market ready to fight.
