Marvel Maximum Collection is a collection of Marvel games from across 6 retro consoles. NES, Arcade, Genesis, SNES, Game Boy, and Game Gear all have at least one game in the collection. The game was developed and published by Limited Run Games and was released on March 27, 2026. It was released on Nintendo Switch, PS5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. The games included in the collection are Silver Surfer, Captain America and the Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man and X-Men in Arcade’s Revenge, Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage, and Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety.

X-Men
X-Men is a beat ’em up arcade game released by Konami in 1992. You play as 1 of 6 X-Men. Choose either Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, or Dazzler to stop Magneto. Each character has a special mutant power that can be used.
Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage
Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage was originally developed by Software Creations and published by Acclaim Entertainment in 1994. Originally released for the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, it’s a beat ’em up where you play as either Venom or Spider-Man to take out Carnage. It’s based on the comic series by the same name.
Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety
Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety is a sequel to Maximum Carnage. It was also developed by Software Creations and published by Acclaim Entertainment in 1995. Again choose between Venom or Spider-Man to take down an evil corporation and Carnage. While the game is named after a comic, the story is more closely aligned with Venom: Lethal Protector.
Silver Surfer is one of the only games in the series I never played growing up.

Silver Surfer is a game originally released in November 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It’s a scrolling shoot ’em up game that was developed by Software Creations and published by Arcadia Systems. In the game you play the titular Silver Surfer as he does Galactus’ bidding to assemble a Cosmic Device.
Captain America and The Avengers
Captain America and The Avengers is a beat ’em up game developed and published by Data East in 1991. It was released initially for arcades, but eventually received ports for Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, and Game Gear. In the game, you choose an Avenger to fight as. Choose between Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Vision to take down Red Skull and his army of supervillains.
Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade’s Revenge
Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade’s Revenge is a game developed by Software Creations for the Super NES, and Sega Genesis. The Game Gear version of the game was developed by Unexpected Development. LJN published the game for Super NES and Game Boy. Flying Edge published the Sega Genesis and Game Gear versions. In the game you play multiple levels as different heroes to defeat Arcade. This was the only game in the series that I was unable to get past. Juggernaut vs Wolverine was too rage inducing.
