The Weekend Prior
It’s been a minute. A lot has happened since the last time I wrote here, the biggest thing being that I had a heart attack at 37 years old. How does something like that happen and how did I know? Well my shoulder was hurting me a lot and I didn’t think anything of it because a few years ago I had the same pain, same amount, same spot, when I got my weight bench and went hard on it. I just figured it was the same thing. It possibly could have been the same thing, I could have had heart problems back then that needed to be looked at and I ignored it. I just went with the pain for a few days, shoveled the out of the ordinary amount of snow we got that weekend and iced my shoulder.
That Monday, January 31st, while on stream I couldn’t take it anymore, my shoulder and back was really hurting. I ended stream after only about an hour and went to lay down. The pain moved over to my chest and I still wasn’t sure why, but it hurt more and more and I couldn’t get comfortable. Finally I decided to give in and go to the hospital.
The Hospital
I told them I had chest pains and they did an EKG and told me it was “abnormal” but probably nothing to worry about. Within a half hour I had staff stripping off my clothes to prep me for exploratory surgery through my artery. It turned out that I had 100% blockage and had to get it cleared out and a stent put in. Since they did that though, I’ve had no shoulder pain and am feeling better than I have in a long time. After a few days in the hospital of pretty much just laying there and being a pin cushion, I was allowed to go home.
Some people may say that it was because of the COVID-19 vaccine or any other number of vaccines that I’ve had throughout the year, but it’s really just my poor diet and lack of movement. I fully admit that I was not taking care of myself, letting myself go, not caring about what I was eating and it cost me. So now I am working toward being healthier and getting things back on track to where they should be. I’m still not supposed to be straining myself too much, the incision site is still scabbed over, but it’s healing nicely and I imagine once that’s fully healed I will be able to start lifting more and really going full force into exercise and stuff.
It sucks that it happened this way, but I’m still here and can still do all the things I want to do, this time with a lot less pain apparently.
