Lionsgate Games

Lionsgate Games is the video game publishing division of Lionsgate, the Canadian-American entertainment company behind The Hunger Games, John Wick, and the Saw franchise. The label focuses on licensing Lionsgate’s film and television IP into video games, co-publishing alongside development partners rather than operating an internal development studio. Their most significant gaming co-publication is Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, released in 2019 in partnership with nWay and Limited Run Games.

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid released in March 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, co-published by nWay, Lionsgate Games, and Limited Run Games. The three-versus-three tag team fighting game used the Power Rangers license and received positive reviews for its accessible mechanics and cross-platform play. Lionsgate’s co-publishing role reflected the company’s ownership of the Power Rangers IP through its Allspark division following the acquisition of Hasbro’s entertainment assets. The game received ongoing DLC support including crossover characters from other fighting game franchises.

Lionsgate IP in Gaming

Beyond Power Rangers, Lionsgate has licensed its properties to external developers across multiple titles. The Hunger Games franchise has appeared in mobile games and casual adaptations. The John Wick franchise has inspired several gaming projects including John Wick Hex, developed by Mike Bithell Games and published by Good Shepherd Entertainment rather than Lionsgate Games directly. The Saw franchise has a long history in gaming through the Saw video game published by Konami in 2009 and 2010. Lionsgate Games as a formal publishing entity remains relatively small compared to the scale of the company’s film operations.
