Unravel Two is a puzzle platformer that was developed by Coldwood Interactive and published by Electronic Arts. It was released on Windows, Playstation 4, and Xbox One on June 9, 2018. The game was then released on March 22, 2019 for Nintendo Switch. Unravel Two was added to the EA Play Vault in January 2019. When EA Play became part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on November 10, 2020, Unravel Two came with it, which is how I played it.
Unravel Two Gameplay
Unravel Two is a puzzle-platform game where you control two Yarnys. Yarnys are small creatures made of yarn. The two must work together to solve environmental puzzles, traverse landscapes, and overcome obstacles. Use yarn lassos to cross gaps, climb walls, rappel down ledges, or just simply tie knots to create bridges. It can be played solo, where you control both Yarnys, or in local co-op with a friend. Unfortunately the game has no online co-op.
Unravel Two Story
During a storm at sea, a red Yarny is separated from their owner. They wake up on the shore with a cut dead end. In the rubble, they discover a blue Yarny who also has a cut end. The two connect their dead ends together and a spark is created from the connection. The spark takes off and they chase after it.
They travel to an adoption home where a boy is attempting to escape their abusive parents. They use the spark to chase the adults off, allowing the boy to escape with another one who has come to save him. The Yarnys and children run through the forest and hide from the adults who are looking for the children.
Eventually the boy is caught and locked up, but the Yarnys cause a machine to malfunction, distracting the adults allowing the boy to escape and reunite with his friend. The Yarnys are able to scare off the adults with the spark again. When a fire breaks out, the Yarnys are running to avoid it, while the children rescue stable horses before running for safety.
After going through the fire destroyed forest, the boys travel the river on a boat while the Yarnys swing and swim down it. The last we see of the children is when they reach the shoreline and presumably reach safety. The Yarnys get to a lighthouse and along with other Yarnys bring the spark to the center of it. The spark destroys the dark spirits surrounding the lighthouse and the storm passes over.
Story Discrepancies
There is no dialogue in the game and everyone besides the Yarnys are in the background, a little hard to make out. Since that's the case, a lot of the story is interpreted in many different ways. Some say the boys were pushing an adult into the water. Some say that the adults turned into the shadow people, some say that the children and everyone else is dead. I wrote what I thought happened, but I also didn't think it was up for interpretation until I was reading about it on the Subreddit.

Unravel Two FAQs
Is Unravel Two online co-op or local only?
Unravel Two only supports local co-op. There is no online multiplayer, so a second player has to be on the same console or PC.
Can you play Unravel Two solo?
Yes. In single player you control both Yarnys at once, switching between them to solve puzzles that would otherwise need two people.
How long is Unravel Two?
The main story runs around 5 hours. Clearing all of the challenge levels pushes it closer to 9 hours.
Do you need to play the first Unravel game?

Is Unravel Two on EA Play or Xbox Game Pass?
Yes. Unravel Two is part of the EA Play Vault, and EA Play is bundled with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Can you customize the Yarnys in Unravel Two?
Yes. The color and look of each Yarny can be changed, so both players can build their own.
Is Unravel Two suitable for kids?
It is rated E for Everyone with mild fantasy violence, so the gameplay is family friendly. Some background story beats deal with fear and an abusive home, shown without any dialogue.
