God of War II is an action adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio. It was published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The game was originally released for the Playstation 2 on March 13, 2007. In 2009, God of War and God of War II were released for PS3 as part of the God of War Collection. The collection had upscaled graphics and Playstation Trophies. It is a sequel to God of War.

While attacking Rhodes, Kratos is attacked by a giant eagle that drains his powers and uses them to animate the Colossus of Rhodes. While fighting with it, Zeus offers Kratos the Blade of Olympus, which Zeus used to end the Great War. To use it, Kratos has to have it drain the rest of his godly powers. Though Kratos is mortal again (and the same power level he was at the beginning of the first game), he defeats the statue, but is badly wounded. The eagle is revealed to be Zeus himself. Zeus gives Kratos a chance to be loyal to the gods, but is refused. Angered by this, Zeus kills him with the blade and destroys his army.
Before Kratos can be dragged to the Underworld, Gaia saves him. Gaia, a Titan, tells him a story of how she raised Zeus. How Zeus’ father Cronos, another Titan, was cruel to his siblings and killed them. Eventually Cronos turned on the Titans because of his father’s cruelty. She wants revenge on Zeus just as much as Kratos. She tells him to find the Sisters of Fate who can alter time and prevent his death.

While fighting his way closer to the Sisters, Kratos comes across an imprisoned Titan named Atlas. Atlas reveals that Gaia and the other Titans seek revenge on Zeus for their defeat in the Great War. He tells him that to beat Zeus, he must use the Blade of Olympus. He then helps Kratos reach the Palace of the Fates.
It is learned that after Kratos’ defeat, Zeus went on to destroy Sparta. This enrages Kratos even further. After defeating the Sisters in battle, Kratos gains access to the Loom of Fate. He uses it to go back in time and surprises Zeus.
Once Kratos stops Zeus and gains the blade, Athena steps in and tries to stop him. She tells him that destroying Zeus destroys Olympus, but Kratos doesn’t listen. While going to strike Zeus down, Athena impales herself, allowing Zeus to escape. As she’s dying, she reveals that Zeus is Kratos’ father and was afraid of Kratos killing him, as he had killed his own father.
Kratos, not happy with this, goes back in time to the Great War to save the Titans. He brings them to the present and the other gods watch as the Titans climb to Olympus.
