We got this, Kratos!
Kratos is a warrior that has been serving the Greek gods for ten years. Prior to that he was part of the Spartan army and had won many victories. After losing what appeared to be his final battle, Kratos called upon the god Ares for help. He promised to serve Ares in exchange for sparing his men’s lives and giving him the power to destroy their enemies.
Ares agreed to his terms and bonded the Blades of Chaos to his arms. These blades were forged in the deep depths of Tartarus and would allow Kratos to kill their enemies. For years Kratos fought Ares’ battles for him. During one attack on a village, Ares transported Kratos’ wife and daughter to the village, forcing him to kill them. Kratos vowed then and there to get revenge on the god that did this to him.
These guys are easy huh?
An oracle cursed Kratos by bonding the ashes of his family to his skin. With his new pale white skin, he earned the nickname Ghost of Sparta. Kratos started to serve the other gods in the chance of forgetting what he had done.
The game starts with Kratos serving Poseidon, who had tasked him with killing the Hydra. Tired of serving for the last ten years, he calls upon Athena. She tells him that if he kills Ares, then he will be forgiven for what he’s done. Ares is attacking Athens and Zeus has forbidden other gods from handling him directly.
Kratos fights through Ares’ army through Athens and comes across an oracle. She informs him in order to kill a god, he will need Pandora’s Box. After many trials and tribulations, Kratos finally has the box. Ares hurls a pillar at Kratos from Athens, sending him to the Underworld. Ares then takes the box for himself. Kratos climbs his way out of the underworld with Athena’s help and discovers that she is not the only god looking out for him.
So Kratos, think this is a trap?
Kratos reclaims Pandora’s Box and upon opening it, becomes godlike and fights Ares. Ares has one last trick up his sleeve and forces Kratos to relive his family’s death. Kratos eventually breaks through the mental torment and is able to kill Ares with the Blade of the Gods. The sword was being used as a bridge to Athens.
Kratos learns that the gods can forgive his sins, but they cannot erase his memories of what he’s done. Deciding to end it all, he jumps to his death in the sea. Athena puts a stop to it and transports him to Mount Olympus. Because of his loyalty and service to the gods, they make him the new God of War.
