I wasn't expecting Crash Bandicoot to be a Souls like game, but it was harder than I expected
Crash Bandicoot is set on a secluded archipelago west of Tasmania, where the evil scientist Doctor Neo Cortex uses his “Evolvo-Ray” to mutate animals into an army for world domination. Among these creatures is Crash, an eastern barred bandicoot chosen to lead the army. However, before he can be brainwashed by the “Cortex Vortex,” Crash escapes and sets out to save Tawna, a female bandicoot, from Cortex’s clutches. Guided by Aku Aku, a mystical guardian spirit, Crash battles through various challenges across the islands, including defeating the tribal chief Papu Papu and Cortex’s henchmen like Ripper Roo, Koala Kong, and Pinstripe Potoroo.
Ripper Roo, how do you do?
As Crash reaches Cortex’s stronghold, he confronts Doctor Nitrus Brio, who transforms into a giant monster. After a fierce battle, Crash escapes to Cortex’s airship, where he ultimately defeats Cortex by deflecting his plasma gun attacks, sending him plummeting from the sky. In a heartfelt moment, Tawna and Crash embrace as they fly into the sunset.
Welcome to Jurassic Park... or Bandicoot Park?
In an alternate ending, Crash and Tawna escape on a giant bird, and the game’s epilogue humorously details the futures of the defeated villains: Papu Papu opens a clothing shop, Ripper Roo becomes an author, Koala Kong turns into a movie star, Pinstripe starts a sanitation company, and Brio finds his passion in bartending.
Crash 1 was hard, but 2 was mostly easy. The last few levels did amp up the difficulty though.
In “Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back,” after his fall into a cavern filled with glowing crystals, Doctor Neo Cortex discovers their immense power and returns to his lab. A year later, with his new assistant Dr. N. Gin, Cortex rebuilds his Cortex Vortex in outer space and realizes he needs 25 more crystals to activate it fully. With no operatives left on Earth, Cortex devises a plan to trick Crash into collecting the crystals for him.
Crash’s sister, Coco, sends him to find a new battery for her laptop, but he is abducted and transported to an ancient Warp Room. There, Cortex appears via hologram, warning Crash about an impending planetary alignment that could cause catastrophic damage. He convinces Crash to collect pink power crystals from around the world, claiming they are needed to dissipate the dangerous energy. Meanwhile, Cortex’s former assistant, Dr. Nitrus Brio, also contacts Crash and reveals that clear and colored gems scattered globally could be used as an alternative energy source to defeat Cortex.
As Crash gathers the crystals, he faces off against Brio’s mutants: Ripper Roo, the Komodo Brothers, and Tiny Tiger. Coco hacks into Cortex’s communication to warn Crash of Cortex’s true intentions. After Crash defeats N. Gin and gathers all 25 crystals, Coco uncovers Cortex’s real plan to use the crystals to power a Cortex Vortex that will brainwash humanity. Crash confronts and incapacitates Cortex in space, preventing the plan but leaving the Cortex Vortex intact. In a final twist, if Crash collects all 42 gems, he and Brio use them to power a laser that destroys the Cortex Vortex, sending its remains crashing back to Earth.
Crash 3 was probably the easiest of the 3, also the shortest.
After Doctor Neo Cortex’s space station crashes on Earth, it releases Uka Uka, a powerful entity and the true mastermind behind Cortex’s evil plans. Uka Uka teams up with Cortex again and recruits Doctor Nefarious Tropy, who invents the Time Twisting Machine. This device allows them to send their minions back in time to collect powerful Crystals and Gems. Meanwhile, Aku Aku senses his evil twin brother Uka Uka’s return and warns Crash and Coco Bandicoot. He reveals that he had previously imprisoned Uka Uka to protect the planet and now leads the Bandicoots to the Time Twisting Machine so they can retrieve the Crystals and Gems before Cortex’s minions do.
Yes I made some crazy insane jumps!
Crash and Coco journey through various time periods, defeating foes like Tiny Tiger, Dingodile, and Doctor N. Gin. After the defeat of N. Tropy, the Time Twisting Machine begins to malfunction. Ultimately, after Crash and Coco defeat Cortex and Uka Uka and collect all the Crystals and Gems, the Time Twisting Machine collapses, trapping Uka Uka, Cortex, and N. Tropy in a timeless prison, turning the latter two into infants.
