Watch Dogs is Ubisoft’s open-world techno-thriller franchise built around the idea that modern cities are fully connected, fully monitored, and fully vulnerable. The franchise began with Watch Dogs (2014), introducing Aiden Pearce, a vigilante hacker navigating a Chicago controlled by the ctOS operating system. The sequel, Watch Dogs 2 (2016), shifted to a brighter, more satirical tone in San Francisco, following Marcus Holloway and the hacktivist collective DedSec as they expose mass data exploitation. Watch Dogs: Legion (2020) expanded the concept further by letting players recruit and control almost any NPC in a near-future London resisting authoritarian surveillance and corporate militarization.

What’s Coming

It’s been rumored that the Watch Dogs franchise is completely dead. While new games may be on ice, there is a movie that is waiting to be released. The movie filmed in 2014 and it stars Sophie Wilde, Tom Blyth, and Markella Kavenagh. While not much is known about the movie, when news of the franchise being on dead broke on Twitter, director Mathieu Turi retweeted the story and said “is it?”.
