High on Life

High on Life is a first-person shooter franchise developed and published by Squanch Games, built around a cast of talking alien guns with distinct personalities who provide continuous commentary throughout gameplay. The original game launched December 13, 2022, on Xbox Game Pass and became the most-played game on the platform in the week of its release. High on Life 2 followed February 13, 2026, directed by Mikey Spano and built in Unreal Engine 5, marking the first major Squanch Games release developed entirely without Justin Roiland’s involvement following his January 2023 resignation from the studio.

High on Life (2022)

High on Life released December 13, 2022, for Windows and Xbox platforms, with PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions following July 22, 2023, and a Nintendo Switch version releasing May 6, 2025. The game follows a human teenager whose suburban home is invaded by a cartel of drug-using aliens called the G3, who plan to harvest humans as a new psychedelic substance. Recruited by a talking gun named Kenny who escapes the invasion, the player takes on bounties against G3 bosses across multiple alien worlds. Each weapon in the game is a sentient alien with a different personality, fire mode, and running commentary on the player’s actions and the game’s story. Justin Roiland voiced several characters including Kenny, with a cast that included J.B. Smoove, Tim Robinson, Betsy Sodaro, and Brendan Hunt among others. High on Life launched day one on Xbox Game Pass and was the most-played Game Pass title in the week of its release, with strong word of mouth driven partly by the game’s humor landing well for streaming audiences.

High on Life 2 (2026)

High on Life 2 released February 13, 2026, for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and Series S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version following July 1, 2026. The game was directed by Mikey Spano and composed by Tobacco, built in Unreal Engine 5. Skateboarding mechanics were added alongside the franchise’s established shooting gameplay. High on Life 2 is the first major Squanch Games release developed without Justin Roiland, who resigned from the studio in January 2023. The game’s production marked a transition period for Squanch Games as the studio established its creative identity without its founding voice performer and co-creator.
