Max Inferno

Max Inferno is a Canadian independent game studio founded in 2021 by Annie Macmillan and Lukas Steinman, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The studio grew out of a prototype built for the GMTK Game Jam in 2020, which Macmillan and Steinman developed as a side project before expanding it into a full commercial release. Their debut game A Little to the Left, published by Secret Mode, has become one of the most recognized cozy puzzle games of its era.

A Little to the Left

A Little to the Left released on November 8, 2022, for Windows and macOS, with a Nintendo Switch version following on November 9, 2022, and PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S versions arriving on February 15, 2024. An Android version released in October 2024. The game is a puzzle title built around organizing and tidying objects in domestic spaces, with each level presenting a cluttered arrangement that players rearrange into satisfying order. Some levels have multiple valid solutions, and a mischievous cat provides ongoing chaos to the tidying process. A Daily Tidy feature delivers a new puzzle variant every day alongside badges for consistent play.

Two downloadable content packs expanded the game after launch. A Little to the Left: Cupboards and Drawers released on June 27, 2023, adding puzzles with multi-step organization across connected compartments. A Little to the Left: Seeing Stars followed with additional content. The base game and its expansions are also available on Xbox Game Pass. A Little to the Left won the Canada Indie Cup Critics Choice Award in 2022, multiple awards at BIG Festival 2023, two Develop Star Awards in 2023 for Best Original IP and Best Small Studio, Canadian Indie Game Awards for Indie Game of the Year, Best Debut, and Best Casual, and TIGA Awards for Best Puzzle Game and Best Visual Design.
