Interabang Entertainment

Interabang Entertainment is a small, bootstrapped independent game studio based in Berkeley, California, co-founded by creative director Justin Woodward. The team is defined by a single, decade-long project: Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch, a hand-drawn beat 'em up set in Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse that spent roughly ten years in development before finally releasing in 2026. Along the way the studio built a reputation less for volume than for sheer persistence.

The Long Road to Chronic Blunt Punch

Chronic Blunt Punch began as a crowdfunding campaign on the now-defunct platform Fig in February 2016, where Interabang raised its initial $400,000 goal. What followed was a long silence. Updates grew sporadic, years passed, and some fans assumed the game had quietly been cancelled. Instead the studio kept working, funding the finish through other means rather than outside investment, until the game finally launched on April 20, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, co-published by Atari, Digital Eclipse, and The MIX Games.

Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl

Partway through that long wait, Interabang released Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl in 2019, developed in collaboration with Tomas Guinan. Mall Brawl is an 8-bit, NES-style retro beat 'em up built in the spirit of River City Ransom and Double Dragon, and it doubled as a prequel to Chronic Blunt Punch. It came out on PC and consoles and even got a physical NES cartridge release through Limited Run Games, which sold out. Beyond the fan service, Mall Brawl served a practical purpose, giving backers a finished game to play while helping fund the completion of the larger project.

The Interabang Approach

Interabang describes itself as an independent team that bootstrapped its studio on years of game art and development experience, and both of its Jay and Silent Bob games reflect that hands-on, self-funded ethos. Rather than chase a broad catalog, the studio poured a decade into getting one passion project right, leaning on a smaller retro spin-off to keep the lights on. It is a small developer with a narrow but distinctive output, tightly bound to Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse.
