Shredder and Splinter

In the original Mirage comics and the versions that follow them, Splinter was once the pet rat of Hamato Yoshi, a ninja Oroku Saki murdered out of jealousy and revenge. Splinter, having learned ninjutsu by mimicking his master, raised the Turtles specifically to avenge Yoshi's death, which makes the entire TMNT saga a revenge story between Shredder and the rat. Shredder has been the final boss of TMNT games for decades, going all the way back to the arcade classics. In the 1989 arcade game and the legendary Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time on the SNES, beating Shredder was the whole goal, and the Super Shredder fight at the end of Turtles in Time is a memorable boss battle. He has continued to headline TMNT games ever since, including the 2022 throwback beat-em-up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, which put his name right in the title and brought back the classic arcade style. In the 1987 cartoon, Uncle Phil himself, James Avery, gave Shredder his commanding voice, and probably the one most people associate with the character.
