Doom is a first person shooter developed by id Software. The game was published by Bethesda Softworks on May 13, 2016 for PS4, Windows, and Xbox One. The game was released for Nintendo Switch on November 10, 2017. Amazon Luna got the game on August 19, 2020. The game, while acting as a reboot, is also a continuation of the previous games.
In 2149, the Union Aerospace Corporation(UAC) operates a massive research facility on Mars, where it taps into a mysterious energy source known as Argent energy. This power originates from Hell, an alternate dimension inhabited by hostile demonic entities. To solve Earth’s energy crisis, the UAC constructs the Argent Tower to extract and refine this energy. However, exposure to Argent energy begins to deteriorate the physical and mental health of the facility’s staff. As the UAC’s understanding of the energy deepens, its research turns occult. The staff begin to worship demons and cybernetically modifying them.
The facility is overseen by Dr. Samuel Hayden, a brilliant scientist who, after being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, transfers his consciousness into a robotic body. Hayden leads expeditions into Hell to retrieve artifacts and capture demons for study. One such expedition uncovers a sarcophagus containing the Doom Slayer, a legendary warrior feared by demons, and his Praetor Suit.
Supporting Hayden is VEGA, a self-aware artificial intelligence that manages the facility’s systems. Meanwhile, Olivia Pierce, Hayden’s former protégé and head of biomechanical research, suffers from severe scoliosis and becomes obsessed with the demonic forces. She ultimately betrays the UAC, forging a pact with the demons to open a permanent portal between Mars and Hell, unleashing a full-scale invasion.
The Slayer awakens to stop the demonic onslaught, battling through the corrupted facility and Hell itself to shut down the Argent Tower, destroy the source of the invasion, and confront Olivia Pierce. As the Slayer dismantles the UAC’s operations and severs the link to Hell, he uncovers the full extent of the corporation’s ambition and the consequences of tampering with forces beyond comprehension.
