The show came out in 2025, but I didn’t hear about it until a year later and after watching the trailer, I knew I had to watch it. Marc Maron and Owen Wilson? There was no way I couldn’t watch it.

He’s used sparingly most of the season, but when he finally shows up in the flesh, it made me want to see more of him.
Stick Season 2
Apple renewed Stick for Season 2 on July 23, 2025, the same day the Season 1 finale dropped. As of July 2026, filming has wrapped and creator Jason Keller is deep in post-production, but Apple has not announced a release date. Keller has said he is hoping for late summer 2026, though a fall debut looks more likely given that he still does not have a date from Apple.
Season 2 moves Pryce beyond coaching. Following the Season 1 finale, where he hits a ball well enough to suggest his playing days are not over, Keller and Wilson have confirmed Pryce returns to competitive golf. Billy Zane, Missi Pyle, and Rex Linn join the cast, with the core Season 1 ensemble returning.
Why Stick Became Popular
Stick works because it offers a comforting, character-driven sports story anchored by Owen Wilson’s charisma. It stays optimistic and funny where a lot of shows in this space reach for cynicism, which makes it easy to put on and easy to stay with. The mentorship arc and the golf setting give it an identity separate from other sports comedies.
Personally, the show reminds me of Happy Gilmore. Maybe it’s just because they’re both about golf, but I think there are some intentional parallels between the two. That might change in Season 2.
Stick Reception and Recognition
Stick has not reached the awards level of a show like Ted Lasso, but Season 1 drew mostly positive reviews, with Owen Wilson’s performance and the show’s warmth getting the bulk of the credit. It was a less easy sell to the more hardcore golf audience, who wanted the sport itself handled with more accuracy.
Is Stick Worth Watching
Stick is worth watching if you enjoy lighthearted sports comedies with emotional depth. It is not groundbreaking, but it is consistently enjoyable and carried by Owen Wilson’s performance. The show fits the nights when you want something warm, funny, and easy to follow.
