Carrie
Carrie is Mike Flanagan's eight episode Prime Video adaptation of Stephen King's 1974 debut novel, and it is the first time the story has ever been made as a TV series. Summer Howell plays Carrie White, Samantha Sloyan plays her mother Margaret White, and the whole season arrives on Prime Video on October 7, 2026. Flanagan wrote the series, serves as showrunner, and directed four of the episodes, with Stephen King on board as an executive producer.
Carrie Release Date and Where to Watch
Carrie premieres exclusively on Prime Video on October 7, 2026, in more than 240 countries and territories. It is included with an Amazon Prime membership, and Prime Video also sells and rents titles through its store for people without one. Reports say all eight episodes drop together, so this is a binge release rather than a weekly one.
Carrie Plot and Story
Carrie White is a misfit high schooler who has spent her whole life sheltered inside her home by her fiercely protective mother, Margaret. After her father's sudden death, Carrie is pushed into the world of public high school at Chamberlain High, where a bullying scandal goes viral and shatters her community. Social media pressure, casual cruelty, and the first signs of her telekinetic powers all rise together as she tries to get through adolescence.
Anytime I thought of telekinesis, I used to just think of Jean Grey, and then when Stranger Things came out, I thought of El as well as her. Maybe the series will have me thinking of Carrie on top of those others.
The setup will sound familiar to anyone who knows the book or the movies, but Prime Video is billing this as a bold and timely reimagining rather than a straight retelling. The social media angle is the biggest modern update, and it changes how the bullying plays out.
Carrie Cast and Characters
Summer Howell as Carrie White
Summer Howell plays the title role after more than 1,000 actors read for the part. She is best known for Channel Zero, Hunter Hunter, and playing Alice in Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky. Sissy Spacek and Chloe Grace Moretz both played Carrie on the big screen before her.
Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White
Samantha Sloyan plays Carrie's domineering mother, Margaret White. She is a longtime Flanagan regular, with roles in The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Midnight Club, and she also appeared in his 2016 film Hush.
Siena Agudong as Sue Snell
Siena Agudong plays Sue Snell, one of Carrie's classmates, and she is known for Resident Evil on Netflix and Star Falls.
Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen
Alison Thornton plays Chris Hargensen, the mean girl at the center of Carrie's torment. Thornton previously appeared in School Spirits and Fire Country.
Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross and Arthur Conti as Billy Nolan
Joel Oulette plays Tommy Ross, the all-American teen who ends up taking Carrie to the prom. Arthur Conti, from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, plays Billy, who is Chris's boyfriend.
Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin
Amber Midthunder plays Miss Desjardin, the gym teacher who genuinely cares about Carrie. Midthunder is best known for Prey and Legion. The 1976 movie renamed this character Miss Collins, so the series going back to Desjardin is a nice nod to the novel.
Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle
Matthew Lillard plays Principal Grayle, the head of Chamberlain High School. Lillard is known for Scream and Five Nights at Freddy's, and he also appeared in Flanagan's The Life of Chuck.
Supporting Cast
Josie Totah plays Tina and Thalia Dudek plays Emaline. Recurring Flanagan collaborators Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Tim Bagley, and Heather Graham also appear in supporting parts.
Mike Flanagan and Stephen King
Mike Flanagan is the creator behind The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher, all of which have a loyal following. He has adapted King before with Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, and he is also attached to a Dark Tower series for Prime Video. Trevor Macy, his longtime producing partner, executive produces Carrie, and it is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
How the Carrie Series Differs From the Book and the 1976 Movie
Flanagan has said he did not want to make a faithful adaptation, because he considers Brian De Palma's 1976 film with Sissy Spacek to have already adapted the book faithfully and beautifully. The series is on a larger scale, introduces new characters with abilities of their own, and keeps the core themes and characters while changing some key scenes. The prom is one of the scenes that will play out very differently.
Every Carrie Adaptation So Far
Carrie has been adapted several times since King's novel came out in 1974. De Palma's 1976 movie started it, followed by The Rage: Carrie 2 in 1999 with Amy Irving returning as Sue Snell, a TV movie remake in 2002, and the 2013 remake starring Chloe Grace Moretz. This Prime Video series is the first to stretch the story across multiple episodes.
My Take on Carrie
I saw one trailer and I saw the movie maybe once in my life. All I remember is the blood scene, but other than that I don't know much. Growing up, if I wanted to watch a movie about high school witches, I would watch The Craft.

Will There Be a Carrie Season 2?
Prime Video has described Carrie as a limited series with eight episodes, and no second season has been announced. The story of the novel is self-contained, so this could be a one season show, but IT: Welcome to Derry expanded that story, so it's not like there's not a history of expanding stories.
