The Cult Games

The Cult Games is a British independent video game publisher incorporated in London on April 17, 2020, founded by Helen Burnill, previously commercial director and VP at Mediatonic, the studio behind Fall Guys. Built from a team with experience at Electronic Arts, Gameforge, and Paradox Interactive, The Cult Games positioned itself as a developer-first publisher focused on supporting established studios with proven track records. UK Companies House records show the company is currently in liquidation as of mid-2026.

Founding and Publishing Philosophy

Helen Burnill unveiled The Cult Games on March 9, 2023, with three games already signed at launch. Burnill described the publishing philosophy in early interviews as deliberately non-interventionist, working only with studios who know what game they want to make and providing commercial and distribution support without becoming creatively involved in production. The publisher’s name reflects its intent to cultivate dedicated fan communities around distinctive games rather than chasing mass market reach, and its initial partner studios were chosen specifically because they had already proven they could build audiences.

The Cult Games Catalog

Galacticare, a science fiction hospital management simulation developed by Brightrock Games, the studio behind War for the Overworld, was one of the three games signed at launch. A new title from Unpacking developer Witch Beam was also part of the inaugural slate. Go-Go Town!, Hotel Barcelona, Autoforge, Tempopo, Catto’s Post Office, Below Nowhere, and Don’t Get Got are among the further releases in the catalog. The Cult Games also announced the acquisition of Neonhive in January 2025. The publisher won award nominations for its catalog’s distinctiveness before the liquidation proceedings began.
