Jumpship is an independent video game studio based in Guildford, United Kingdom. Founded in 2017 by Chris Olsen, a UK-based animator, and Dino Patti, the former CEO and co-founder of Playdead, the studio behind Limbo and Inside. Their debut game was Somerville, released November 2022.

Jumpship Origin Story

Chris Olsen started preliminary work on Somerville in 2014 while working as an animator in Australia. By 2016 he had a proof of concept and playable prototype. In 2017 Dino Patti joined as executive producer, having just left Playdead after producing both Limbo and Inside. Jumpship announced on June 27, 2017 alongside the first teaser for Somerville.

Somerville (2022)

A sci-fi adventure about a young family separated during an alien invasion. You play as the father navigating a devastated landscape trying to find your family. Presented without dialogue, communicating its story through environment and animation in the tradition of Limbo and Inside. Launched for Xbox and PC in November 2022 and PlayStation in August 2023. Mixed reception with praise for atmosphere and criticism for some puzzle pacing.

The Ownership Changes

Thunderful Group acquired Jumpship on Somerville’s launch day in November 2022. Patti remained and retained creative control. In November 2024, Thunderful conducted layoffs at Jumpship and cancelled Somerville’s planned spiritual successor. In early 2025, Patti reacquired Jumpship from Thunderful, regaining control less than three years after selling it.
