Scary Movie 6 Plot Summary
Spoilers for the whole movie, including the ending, follow.
The movie opens with teenager Tuesday Campbell watching Horror Movie, an in-universe spoof of the original Scary Movie, when Ghostface attacks her. Her older half-sister Sara and Sara's boyfriend Jack Kirsch learn that Tuesday is in the hospital and suspect the attack echoes the 2000 killing spree carried out by Doofy Gilmore. They go to Sara's estranged mother, Cindy Campbell, who has become a paranoid recluse and refuses to help because she suspects the killer is trying to lure her out.
Tuesday's friends hear about the attack too, including Brenda Meeks's children Brad and Dei, Brad's girlfriend Elle, and Jess, the son of Sheriff Greg Phillippe. Brenda's brother Shorty joins the group, while Brenda, now going by Ma, attends church with her husband Ray Wilkins. After Ghostface goes after Sara and Jack at the hospital, they visit Doofy, who reluctantly agrees to help. The group meets at Brenda's house, where Cindy shows up after a change of heart and Brenda theorizes that this Ghostface is running a rebootquel, bringing back legacy characters while adding new ones, which puts the original cast in danger.
The killings keep coming, with Sheriff Greg and Jess among the victims, and reporter Gail Hailstorm reconnects with Doofy for information. Shorty smokes too much weed and Ghostface hypnotizes him into an animated sequence styled after KPop Demon Hunters, and later Ghostface kills Kai Cenat during Shorty's livestream. The movie then runs through a subway attack and a Halloween costume party at Brenda's house before Cindy fights a wave of Ghostfaces in a John Wick style sequence.
The reveal is that Elle is Ghostface and Jack is her accomplice, and the two say they want to take the Scary Movie franchise away from the legacy characters. More Ghostfaces arrive and kill them, and those turn out to be Anthony Anderson and Shaquille O'Neal playing themselves, working with Shorty and Ray, who planned the twist all along. Shorty and Ray then betray Anthony and Shaquille over a grudge about Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4 being made without them. Cindy reminds them that the original four characters are back together, which ends the killing spree. In the final scene, Sara and Tuesday pitch themselves as the new final girls, and Cindy, Brenda, Shorty, and Ray tie them up and leave them in the burning house, declaring that nobody takes this franchise from them.

Which Horror Movies Does Scary Movie 6 Parody?
The Ghostface storyline pulls from Scream (2022) and Scream VI, and the trailer opened with a spoof of the Scream VI subway scene. Other horror targets include Get Out, Longlegs, Sinners, Halloween (2018), Smile, M3GAN, The Substance, Weapons, Heart Eyes, and Terrifier 3, which gets a scene with Art the Clown dressed as Santa Claus in a mall.
The movie also pokes at slasher icons, with references to Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th and Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. Sue Ann "Ma" Ellington from Ma and Wednesday Addams from Wednesday show up as well. Outside of horror, a fake biopic trailer with Kenan Thompson as Jermaine Jackson spoofs Michael (2026), and the animated sequence spoofs KPop Demon Hunters.

Scary Movie 6 Box Office and Reviews
Scary Movie 6 opened to $55 million domestically, which Deadline reported as a franchise record and a Paramount comedy record, and it topped the weekend box office over Masters of the Universe. Against a $30 million budget, it had grossed $231.9 million worldwide as of September 9, 2026, split between $108.3 million in the United States and Canada and $123.6 million internationally. That makes it the second-highest grossing film in the series after the original Scary Movie.
Critics were not kind. Rotten Tomatoes lists 23% positive reviews from 135 critics with an average rating of 4.1 out of 10, and Metacritic has a score of 38 out of 100 based on 27 critics. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave it a C+.
How Scary Movie 6 Was Made
Miramax announced a new Scary Movie at CinemaCon in April 2024 with Neal H. Moritz attached as an executive producer. In October 2024, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans were confirmed as writers and producers, with Rick Alvarez and Michael Tiddes hired to co-write and direct. The Wayans family had left the series after Scary Movie 2 over creative conflicts with the original producers, and Marlon has called this movie a rebooquel.
Principal photography ran from October 1 to November 24, 2025, at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, and extra filming in April 2026 added the Sinners, Weapons, and Michael parodies. Haim Mazar composed the score, and Lakeshore Records released a 29 track soundtrack on June 5, 2026. Anna Faris has said the Melania Trump joke she pushed for with Cindy was cut from the final version.
Is Scary Movie 6 a Sequel to Scary Movie 5?
The 2026 film is described as a spiritual sequel to the first two Scary Movie films rather than a direct follow-up to Scary Movie 5 from 2013, which had almost no connection to the earlier entries. Its story picks up with the original Cindy, Brenda, Shorty, Ray, and Doofy, and it jokes about the Wayans brothers' absence from Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4. For the full run of films in order, the Scary Movie franchise page has the complete series.
