Brütal Legend is an action-adventure game with RTS elements created by Double Fine and published by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 13, 2009. Double Fine later published the Windows, Linux, and Mac OS versions of the game. Brutal Legend for Windows was released on February 26, 2013, with MacOS and Linux getting the game on May 7, 2013. It starred Jack Black, and his likeness was used for the main character. In the game you went to an alternate dimension in which heavy metal inspired most of the elements in the world. There was special appearances by Ozzy Osbourne, Tim Curry, and Lemmy as characters in the game.

Eddie is a roadie who believes that roadies are the real stars of every show. They get the band’s equipment setup, they test it out, without roadies, there is no show. His logic is sound. While working for Kabbage Boy, the band is killed and Eddie is knocked unconscious. When he comes to, Eddie is in an alternate heavy metal world. In this world there’s a prophesy that seems to point to Eddie being the chosen one. The problem is the translation for the prophesy could mean he’s the savior of the world… or the destroyer.

Eddie meets Lars, Lita, and Ophelia and helps them form Ironheade, a resistance army to fight against General Lionwhyte and his minions. After toppling Lionwhyte’s Pleasure Tower, the demon emperor Doviculus arrives, forcing the group into hiding. Suspecting Ophelia to be the traitorous demon spy “Succoria,” tensions rise. Lars confronts Doviculus and is killed, and as the Tainted Coil raze their refuge, Eddie and Lita flee, leaving a heartbroken Ophelia behind.

Ophelia succumbs to despair and dives into the cursed Sea of Black Tears, transforming into Drowned Ophelia, leader of the goth army Drowning Doom. Three months later, she attacks Ironheade’s mountain stronghold. Eddie rallies new allies, the Fire Barons and Zaulia, and uncovers the truth about his heritage: his father, Riggnarok, was a time-traveling hero, and his mother was Succoria, the demon empress who fell in love with Riggnarok and bore Eddie.
In the final battle, Doviculus kills Ophelia and absorbs her powers, but Eddie defeats him in a climactic duel. He retrieves Ophelia’s heart, revives her, and the two reunite as Ironheade celebrates victory. A statue is erected for Lars, Lita leads the remaining forces, and Eddie, ever the roadie, quietly departs – with Ophelia watching as he rides into the sunset, a single black tear falling from her eye.
