WB Games Montreal is a Canadian video game developer based in Montreal, Quebec. Founded in 2010 as a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Games, the studio is best known for Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights. They have worked within the DC Comics universe exclusively since their founding.

Batman: Arkham Origins (2013)

A prequel to Rocksteady’s Arkham series, set on Christmas Eve during Batman’s early years. Eight assassins have been hired to kill him in a single night. The game received mixed reception, with praise for the boss battles and portrayal of a younger Batman, and criticism for technical issues and prioritizing paid DLC over fixing significant bugs.

Batman: Arkham Origins Cold, Cold Heart (2014)

A DLC expansion for Arkham Origins featuring Mr. Freeze, considered one of the better pieces of Arkham content.

Batman: Arkham Knight Batgirl DLC (2015)

WB Montreal developed the Batgirl: A Matter of Family DLC for Rocksteady’s Arkham Knight.

Gotham Knights (2022)

Set in its own continuity separate from the Arkham games. Batman is dead and the Bat Family, consisting of Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin, must defend Gotham. Supports two-player co-op. Received mixed reception with criticism directed at performance issues, the 30fps lock on current-gen consoles at launch, and the feeling it did not match the quality of the Arkham games.

What’s Next

WB Games Montreal began work on a new unannounced project following Gotham Knights. Given their history with DC properties, another DC-based game is likely. The studio continues operating under Warner Bros. Games. James Gunn, Co-CEO of DC Studios, did say that games would be part of the DCU going forward, so whatever they are working on, there is a possibility that it could be set in the same universe as Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.
