Ubisoft Toronto is a Canadian game developer and subsidiary of Ubisoft, opened in 2010 under Jade Raymond. It made its debut with Splinter Cell Blacklist in 2013, later led development of Watch Dogs: Legion and Far Cry 6, and is currently developing the Splinter Cell remake. The studio had roughly 500 employees as of February 2026.
Ubisoft announced in July 2009 that it was establishing a Toronto studio, and Jade Raymond, a producer on the first Assassin's Creed, was put in charge of building it. Many of its first employees transferred from Ubisoft Montreal, and the studio formally opened in September 2010. Unlike most new Ubisoft studios, which begin by supporting larger teams, Toronto was allowed to lead its own games from the start. Raymond left Ubisoft in October 2014, and Alexandre Parizeau, a founding member of the Toronto team, took over as managing director.
The studio's first game was Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist, released in August 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows, and Wii U and developed with Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Shanghai. Raymond reportedly chose Splinter Cell because she saw it as Ubisoft's most iconic franchise and a way to help the new studio grow and recruit. Blacklist received strong reviews and set up the studio's long relationship with the series.
After Blacklist, Ubisoft Toronto contributed to Far Cry 4, Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry Primal, Watch Dogs 2, For Honor, and Far Cry 5. In 2018, the studio released its first original IP, Starlink: Battle for Atlas, a toys to life game that blended physical toys with digital gameplay.
Ubisoft Toronto led development of Watch Dogs: Legion, directed by Clint Hocking, with support from Ubisoft Montreal and several other Ubisoft studios. It released in 2020 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Windows, and Stadia. The studio described it as the most ambitious project in its history.
Ubisoft Toronto replaced Ubisoft Montreal as the lead developer of Far Cry 6, which released in 2021 with Giancarlo Esposito as the villain Antón Castillo. The studio counted it as its tenth game.
Ubisoft announced a remake of the original Splinter Cell at Ubisoft Toronto in December 2021, describing it as a ground up rebuild on the Snowdrop engine instead of a simple remaster. Ubisoft has not announced a release date or a release window. After layoffs at the studio in 2026, Ubisoft confirmed that the remake was still in development.
In February 2026, Ubisoft eliminated 40 roles at Ubisoft Toronto, about eight percent of its staff, as part of a wider restructuring that included the closure of its Halifax studio. Ubisoft said the Toronto studio continues to develop the Splinter Cell remake. It also remains a co-development partner on Rainbow Six Siege with Ubisoft Montreal, and it has supported projects such as Star Wars Outlaws and Far Cry 5. A performance capture venture called Alice x Junction, run with Ubisoft Montreal, provides cinematics for several Ubisoft games.
