Stellar Entertainment

Stellar Entertainment is a game developer based in Guildford, England, founded by Criterion veteran Paul Ross. The studio is best known for Burnout Paradise Remastered, and it also remastered Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit with Criterion Games, co-developed Need for Speed Unbound, and is working on an unannounced arcade racing game.

Stellar Entertainment Studio History and Founders

Stellar Entertainment is based in Guildford, the same town as Criterion Games, the studio behind the original Burnout series. Founder and CEO Paul Ross spent about 16 years at Criterion, where he was technical director on Burnout Revenge and online lead on Burnout 3: Takedown and Burnout Paradise. Creative director Chris Roberts also worked on all of the mainline Burnout games at Criterion. EA's developer letter for the remaster describes the pair as having left to build their own studio before getting the chance to return to a Burnout game.

Burnout Paradise Remastered by Stellar Entertainment

Stellar Entertainment developed Burnout Paradise Remastered with Criterion Games, and Electronic Arts published it. It released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in March 2018 and for Windows in August 2018. The remaster includes the game's downloadable content except for the Time Savers Pack, with support for higher resolution displays. Stellar also brought it to Nintendo Switch on June 19, 2020, its first Switch project, built to run at 60 FPS. Stellar did not develop the original 2008 Burnout Paradise, which was made by Criterion Games.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered and Need for Speed Unbound

Stellar Entertainment remastered Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit alongside Criterion Games, and critics received the remaster well. The studio later worked with Criterion on Need for Speed Unbound.

Other Stellar Entertainment Games

According to Eurogamer, Stellar Entertainment has also contributed to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Knockout City, and Sea of Solitude, the last two published by EA Originals.

Stellar Entertainment New Racing Game

Stellar has advertised jobs for an unannounced AAA arcade racing game built in Unreal Engine 5 for consoles and PC. Cryptic posts from the studio in January 2024 led to speculation that it is a new Burnout game or a Burnout 3: Takedown remaster, but nothing has been confirmed. EA still owns the Burnout series.
