Killmonday Games

Killmonday Games is an independent Swedish video game studio founded by the married couple Natalia Martinsson and Isak Martinsson, based in Stockholm. The studio is known for dark, hand-drawn adventure games with strong narrative focus and themes that include childhood trauma, mental health, and mortality presented through distinctive art and a tone that blends the whimsical with the genuinely disturbing. Their two released games are Fran Bow and Little Misfortune, both of which developed cult followings after release.

Fran Bow

Fran Bow released in August 2015, a point-and-click adventure following a young girl named Fran who escapes a mental institution to find her cat Mr. Midnight after witnessing the murder of her parents. The game moves between the real world and a dark parallel dimension and uses hand-drawn art throughout. It received positive reviews for its atmosphere, story, and art design, finding a dedicated audience that appreciated its willingness to engage seriously with themes of childhood trauma and mental illness. Fran Bow has sold over one million copies across its lifetime.

Little Misfortune

Little Misfortune released in September 2019, a spiritual successor to Fran Bow following a different young girl named Misfortune Ramirez Hernandez who is sent on a quest to find Eternal Happiness for her mother. The game shares Fran Bow’s hand-drawn style and dark thematic content but adds voice acting throughout and takes a more overtly comedic tone alongside its darker elements. It received generally positive reviews, praised for its character writing and visual design, though some found it shorter and less complex than Fran Bow.
