Zodiac in Marvel Comics
In Marvel Comics, Zodiac is a criminal cartel of 12 members who take their codenames from the astrological signs, with leadership rotating among them by sign. The group has clashed with S.H.I.E.L.D. Several villains and organizations in Marvel Comics use the Zodiac name, and Marvel has not confirmed which version the series will use.
Zodiac in the MCU
Zodiac has appeared in the MCU before. In the 2013 Marvel One-Shot Agent Carter, included on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray, Peggy Carter takes out the members of a criminal organization called Zodiac and recovers a vial of the Zodiac weapon. In the Captain America: The Winter Soldier Prelude comic, a terrorist cell steals the Zodiac weapon from S.H.I.E.L.D. and plans an attack on Chicago's Willis Tower before the STRIKE team stops it and the weapon returns to S.H.I.E.L.D. custody. Marvel has not said whether the series follows up on either story.
