Slayaway Camp is a puzzle game with a horror theme. It was developed and published by Blue Wizard Digital. The console and handheld versions of the game were published by Digerati. The game is pretty unique in that it released for browsers first on August 29, 2016. Later that year on October 25, 2016, the game came to Windows, macOS, and Linux. On Valentine's Day 2017, the game came to iOS. It came to Android on June 13, 2017. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 got the game on October 23, 2017. On March 22, 2018, the game came to Nintendo Switch. The game released for PlayStation Vita on November 20, 2018. Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut was a part of Xbox Games with Gold in October 2020, which is how I got the game.
Slayaway Camp Gameplay
Slayaway Camp is a grid-based puzzle game where you control a skull-faced slasher and slide across compact diorama levels to eliminate every victim. The gameplay mixes horror parody with tight, logic-driven movement, turning 80s slasher tropes into a strategic puzzle loop.
Each level is a small grid, and your character moves in straight lines until hitting an obstacle. The challenge comes from positioning: you need to line up kills, avoid hazards, and reach the exit without getting caught or stuck. Every stage is self-contained, with a clear objective: eliminate all victims and escape.
You don't walk tile by tile. You slide. Once you move in a direction, you keep going until something stops you. This creates a chess-like rhythm where every move has consequences. You plan routes, bounce off walls, and use the environment to trap victims or avoid police, traps, and environmental dangers.

Killers in Each Slayaway Camp Movie
Each level is a parody of a different movie, which made the easter eggs extra fun since I am a fan of most of the movies parodied.
Slayaway Camp
Slayaway Camp is a parody of Friday the 13th and the name itself is a take on Sleepaway Camp. The killer Skullface is supposed to be Jason. It's about a summer camp. It has teenagers and cabins. Skullface's massacre definitely rivals Jason.
Slayaway Camp 2: Return to Slayaway Camp
Skullface is back in Slayaway Camp 2: Return to Slayaway Camp. It is a parody of Friday the 13th Part 2 as well as other generic slasher sequels "Return of the killer" trope. The premise is always bigger kills and an unmasking gag.
Slayaway Camp 2.5: Another Return to Slayaway Camp
Slayaway Camp 2.5: Another Return to Slayaway Camp is a parody of cheap VHS cash-grab sequels. The ".5" joke is about studios milking franchises with things like special editions and unrated versions.
Slayaway Camp 3D: The Abusement Park
Slayaway Camp 3D: The Abusement Park is a take on Killer Klowns from Outer Space and The Funhouse. It also is a parody on the 3D movies that were big in the 80s. The 80s had a lot of carnival and amusement park styled movies. They made great slashers.
Slayaway Camp 4: Slash'em High
High school slashers are big even today. Slayaway Camp 4: Slash'em High is a parody of Prom Night and Scream 2. It also covers other high school based slashers where there's a murderous teacher and teen victims.
Slayaway Camp 5: Bloodbath Beach
Slayaway Camp 5: Bloodbath Beach is a parody of Jaws and Piranha. The killer Sharkman is a direct spoof of summer beach horror.
Slayaway Camp 6: Fatality Ward
This one is a little more spot-on. It parodies American Mary and the killer is dressed like and is named Mary. I know this movie is pretty obscure, but I would highly recommend anyone who likes horror to watch it.
Slayaway Camp 7: Office Hours
Everyone hates workplace layoffs, but they really hate them when it turns into a killer.
Slayaway Camp 8: Manhattan Manslaughter
Slayaway Camp 8: Manhattan Manslaughter is a parody of Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. The Hotdog is a street mascot turned slayer.
Slayaway Camp X: Space Camp
Sci-fi horrors like Alien and Jason X are parodied in Slayaway Camp X: Space Camp. Skullface 9000 is a futuristic slasher parody, or as some call him, Uber Jason. I know Jason X isn't the best Friday the 13th movie and it's easily forgotten, but the fact that it's included here is really great to me.

Slayaway Camp DLCs
Santa's Slay
Killer Christmas movies? Santa's Slay is a parody of killer Santa and Christmas horror movies, like Silent Night, Deadly Night.
My Gory Valentine
My Gory Valentine is a parody of My Bloody Valentine.
Hell Camp
Religious horrors like The Exorcist and The Omen are parodied in Hell Camp.
Faces of Killed 3 (or Yo! Skullface!)
This one works differently from the movies. Faces of Killed 3 is a bonus minigame that spoofs the old Faces of Death shock tapes, and the goal is to time each kill by stopping a moving marker inside a shrinking red zone. Every successful hit earns Skull Coins, which go toward unlocking new killers in the Mystery Box, including parodies of classic horror villains, like a Xenomorph and Pinhead. At the PG violence setting the same minigame gets renamed Yo, Skullface! and reskins into a bootleg VHS after-school special.

Slayaway Camp FAQs
Is Slayaway Camp based on Friday the 13th?
Partly. Skullface, the main killer, is a direct parody of Jason Voorhees, and the first movie riffs on both Friday the 13th and Sleepaway Camp. The full game parodies a wide range of slashers though, from Jaws to American Mary to Alien, so it plays more like a love letter to 80s horror as a whole than a single franchise spoof.
What is the difference between Slayaway Camp and Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut?
Butcher's Cut is the expanded console and handheld edition, published by Digerati for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation Vita. It bundles the base game with all the bonus movies like Santa's Slay, My Gory Valentine, and Hell Camp, plus extra gorepacks and achievements. The original Blue Wizard Digital release on browser, PC, and mobile is the standard version.
What platforms is Slayaway Camp on?
Slayaway Camp launched in browsers in 2016, then came to Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. The Butcher's Cut edition later released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation Vita.
How many levels are in Slayaway Camp?
Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut has over 300 puzzles spread across 10 movies in the base game and five DLC movies. Each movie is a themed set of levels with its own signature killer.
Who voices Skullface in Slayaway Camp?
Skullface is voiced by Mark Meer, best known as Commander Shepard from Mass Effect. The cast also includes Derek Mears, who played Jason Voorhees in the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot, which is a fitting bit of casting for a Jason parody.
Was Slayaway Camp free on Xbox?
Yes. Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut was part of Xbox Games with Gold in October 2020, free that month to Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass Ultimate members.
Is there a Slayaway Camp sequel?
Yes. Slayaway Camp II released in 2024 and adds a class system to the killers. Blue Wizard Digital also made a licensed spin-off, Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle, in 2018, though it was delisted in 2023.
