Inde Navarrette delivers a breakout performance as Nikki Freeman. Last time I saw her, she was in Superman and Lois, so this role is a huge change. She nails it though. Michael Johnston plays Bear, the shy music store employee whose wish unleashes chaos. Together, they anchor the movie, while the rest of the cast is small, but necessary to round out the secrets of the gang. The most famous person in the movie was probably Andy Richter, but I can't imagine him being anyone, but himself and his four brothers on Arrested Development.
Obsession Character Dynamics
The relationship between Nikki and Bear drives the story. What begins as childhood affection becomes warped by Bear's selfish wish. A wish that transforms Nikki into being obsessed with Bear. This dynamic highlights themes of manipulation and toxic relationships, with the latter even being called out in the movie itself. How the One Wish Willow Works in Obsession

It made Nikki love him more than anyone else, herself included. The film reworks the classic "monkey's paw" trope, exploring how obsession erodes identity and agency. With analog cinematography and unsettling atmosphere along with powerhouse performances by Navarrette and Johnston, Obsession earns its place at the top of my 2026 horror films so far. Its use of excess emotional violence and thematic weight make it unforgettable. Overall, Obsession scores an 9 out of 10.
