Nathan and Nora look out while sitting together in Lakeview

PROS

  • The concept does most of the heavy lifting, and a paywalled afterlife is a hook most sci-fi comedies would kill for
  • Nathan and Nora carry the whole thing. Their chemistry is the main reason the season works as well as it does
  • The satire has actual teeth. Microtransactions and corporate control are played for laughs, but the point still lands
  • The mystery around Nathan's death gives the season a spine, so it is not just one gag after another
  • Lakeview looks exactly right. That too-perfect resort sheen sells the idea that none of it is real

CONS

  • The supporting cast gets thin next to the leads. A few characters feel like they are parked until later seasons
  • The tone can lurch, going from workplace comedy to murder conspiracy and back inside a single episode
  • Lakeview's polish cuts both ways, and anyone wanting a grittier, dirtier sci-fi world will not find it here
  • A handful of threads just stop, clearly saved for Season 2, so the season does not fully close its own loops
