Elle is a Prime Video original series released in July 2026. Created by Laura Kittrell and Caroline Dries and produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios, the show is a coming-of-age comedy-drama that serves as a prequel to Legally Blonde. It follows Elle Woods in 1995 as she navigates high school, tricky friendships, forbidden romance, and questionable fashion choices. The series explores the formative experiences that shaped Elle into the iconic young woman audiences first met in the 2001 film.
Elle Series Overview
Set before Elle's Harvard years, the story begins with Elle living in Bel-Air, where she has a perfect plan for her junior year. Her world is disrupted when her parents announce an unexpected move to Seattle. The series blends humor and drama, showing Elle's resilience as she adapts to a new city and school while staying true to herself.
Reese Witherspoon talked about how she watched Wednesday on Netflix and said that should be Elle Woods. While the show is not entirely kookie and spooky, bringing the pinked-out Elle to a 90s Seattle still gives the same kind of vibes in a way. The lack of cheerfulness is Elle's nightmare, as much as she is theirs. The way they end up ultimately complimenting each other makes for very interesting outcomes.
Elle Cast
Lexi Minetree stars as Elle Woods, with June Diane Raphael as her mother Eva Woods and Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt Woods in supporting roles. Reese Witherspoon, who originated the role of Elle in Legally Blonde, serves as executive producer, ensuring continuity with the original films. The Woods' actors mimic their movie counterparts amazingly well, with Minetree's only noticeable difference being her voice, most people probably wouldn't even notice though. For some reason, I can typically tell who someone is just from their voice alone, so it threw me off seeing Elle Woods, almost indistinguishable in any other way from her Witherspoon counterpart.
Elle Season 1
The first season consists of eight episodes. Storylines include Elle rescuing her new friend from injustice, organizing her school's first Homecoming, and confronting rumors about her crush. Each episode highlights Elle's growth, balancing comedy with heartfelt lessons about friendship, loyalty, and self-confidence.
Elle Filming Locations
Produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios, Elle combines nostalgic 1990s settings with modern storytelling. The series features authentic period details, from fashion to music, while maintaining the upbeat tone of the Legally Blonde franchise. Filming for Elle primarily happened in Vancouver, Canada, but additional on-location shooting occurred in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, CA.
Elle Season 2 Release Date
Before the premiere happened, a second season was ordered. The show released on July 1 on Amazon Prime Video, but filming for season 2 wrapped up the month prior. There is no release date for season 2 yet, but if I was Amazon, I'd be putting it out right at the start of 2027 if not sooner. Hopefully with this renewed interest in the franchise, Legally Blonde 3 can get back on track.
