Ted Lasso premiered on Apple TV+ in August 2020 and became the streamer’s first breakout hit, winning back-to-back Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series. The show follows Ted Lasso, an American college football coach with no soccer experience who gets hired to manage AFC Richmond, a struggling Premier League club. The joke is that he has no idea what he’s doing. The show is about the fact that it works anyway.
Season 3 ended in 2023 as what everyone assumed was the series finale. It wasn’t. Season 4 premieres August 5, 2026.
I didn’t know anything about soccer when I started the show. The show didn’t teach me much about soccer, but it was entertaining watching a show about soccer.
Ted Lasso Cast and Characters
Jason Sudeikis plays Ted Lasso, and also co-created the show alongside Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly. The character started as a promo bit Sudeikis did for NBC Sports’ Premier League coverage.

Ted Lasso Season Guide and Reviews
Ted Lasso Season 1
Ted arrives at Richmond knowing nothing about soccer and wins over a locker room, a fanbase, and an owner who hired him to sink the club. Ten episodes, the tightest season the show ever produced.
Ted Lasso Season 2
The show goes darker. Ted’s panic attacks become a central storyline, Dr. Sharon Fieldstone arrives, and Nate begins the turn that defines the back half of the series.
Ted Lasso Season 3
Richmond pushes for the title while Ted weighs England against his son back home. Every character gets an ending, which is both the season’s ambition and its problem.
Ted Lasso Season 4 Release Date and What We Know
Ted Lasso Season 4 premieres Wednesday, August 5, 2026 on Apple TV, with one episode at launch and new episodes weekly through the October 7 finale. Ted returns to Richmond to coach a second division women’s football team.
Returning: Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift. New to the cast are Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, and Abbie Hern. Grant Feely takes over as Henry Lasso from Gus Turner.
Notably absent from the announced regular cast: Phil Dunster and Nick Mohammed, meaning no Jamie Tartt and no Nate Shelley.
Hopefully season 4 tightens things up and brings it up to on par with the first season. Either way, the show continued to be entertaining throughout its run, so I don’t have any doubt that it will have the same quality as the rest of the show.
Where to Watch Ted Lasso
All three seasons stream on Apple TV+. Season 4 arrives August 5, 2026.
Hopefully season 4 leads to more. Three seasons didn’t feel like enough and season 4 feels like a new beginning, so hopefully it’s not a one and done.
