RIP Shorty March 12, 1927-September 6, 2005

My grandmother just passed away. I’m relieved in a way that we didn’t need to pull the plug, and she went on her own terms. She did everything on her own terms, even when she had no idea what she was doing and that was frequently, she did it her way. That was one of her favorite songs too, it’s what got her through so much. Frank Sinatra’s I Did It My Way was her favorite song and that’s the way she lived her life, not caring what others thought or how they saw her. Everyone saw this as her being a bitch. In a way she was a bitch, and she passed it on to my mother and me. She also passed it on to the woman whom she loved and thought of as a daughter. My grandmother was the biggest bitch one could ever know, and despite all her bitchy ways she still came through whenever you needed her. She helped me get through the tough times, spent nights in the hospital with me when things weren’t so good. We had the biggest sceaming matches ever and fought like crazy. She would even come to threaten me. Afterwards we both grew closer because we knew we were more alike than we ever realized. She had lung cancer and she didn’t even know it until a few days ago. She told my mom’s friend whom I went to get that she could die happy knowing that everyone was well and that we’d all be okay. She helped raise me when my father wasn’t around, and she was the most influencial person in my life. Through everything she went through and everything that was going on with the family, one thing could definitely be said about her, she did it her way.

We miss you.

Barely Breathing

Even though you wouldn’t know it if you looked at her, medically it is reported that my grandmother is getting worse and had three days to live, because there’s a mass in her lung obstructing her breathing. That’s from a medical standpoint, even though from a bystander standpoint she looks fine. My mother woke me up yesterday and told me the news and she isn’t doing that great, so after hearing the news I drove two hours to Long Island, NY, to get my mother’s best friend whom she grew up with, but hasn’t talked to in a few years. So now she’s in Jersey and probably staying the night, at the least. You never know about your parents’ wild teenage side unless someone who they grew up with comes to visit. It’s weird hearing my mom drunk driving with a permit and her friend throwing up in the back seat. All’s life I suppose, I don’t suppose I will be telling my kids about the time I got wasted and got in a boxing match with my brother and attempting to eat a poinsetta.

Format

[Edit] After using my recovery CD from my laptop it worked, after discovering my XP CD was scratched. Everything is up now, all four harddrives and the DVD burner. Now I can get everything reinstalled and get to working on the site once again.[/Edit]

So I am formatting my harddrive after it crashed. I am installing it on a 20 gig harddrive so not to lose any files and then moving all my site files to a seperate partition, that is if it decides to work at all. I might need to get a new XP CD if that’s the case I’ll go to my school and get XP Pro from them and use that. Either that or try and install Windows 95 and upgrade to XP, the only problem is that I am not sure if my motherboard supports 95. With all this computer stuff I’m trying to get done, and the fact that classes start on the 6th, I won’t have much time to get it done, so I am focusing on the computer more than the site. Once everything is settled, I will be putting more effort into the site.

In other news my grandmother is almost out of oxygen from her backup tank since we brought her to the doctor the other day. We may have to bring her to the hospital soon, she is in congestive heart failure and she has gout. What a week it’s been.

Wired Network is Up

I got my wired network up again, and now I’m fooling around with the wireless one. After the wireless one is up and running I am going to get the printers and file sharing all set up.

My grandmother came home yesterday with oxygen, which she never had before. We think she is having a problem breathing due to the fact that she was on some alzheimer’s medication, which she was never on before. What’s strange is that at a previous time, we were told she didn’t exhibit any of the signs that a alzheimer’s patient or a pre-alzheimer’s patient exhibits. It wasn’t too long ago that we got this diagnosis.

New Laptop

by leprakhauns on 18 Aug 2005 08:40 pm
So I bought a laptop today, so expect more update after I get everything up and running. The laptop is a Compaq Presario. I know it isn’t the best laptop out there, but seeing as how I will be using mostly for programming, it is a good buy. What I hate about new computers is all the crap that comes with it. All the excess software that you will never use and just takes up space.

My grandmother is scheduled to come home on Saturday, so it is a mad dash to the finish to get everything done. Deadlines usually get me going, so waiting ’till the last minute isn’t a bad thing. Well I’m going to get back to clearing the laptop of the unneeded junk.

Deuce Bigalow: European Gigalo

This is my first movie review:

Summary: Deuce Bigalow European Gigalo picks up a few years after the first one left off. This time Deuce (Rob Schneider) goes to Amsterdam to investigate the recent murder of gigalos. While in Europe he is coaxed back into being the bumbling gigalo by his pimp TJ. He is pimped out to woman with problems each more ridiculous than the last, including a woman with a baby fetish and a woman with a penis for a nose.

This movie can be described in one sentence: a bad sequal to a not so great movie. The movie throws ridiculous situations at you, that would never happen in real life and expect you to laugh at it. The most ridiculous one being Sneider’s character’s attachment to his dead wife’s artificial leg. It is unbelievable and too ridiculous and uninspired to laugh at. I give it half a shamrock out of 5 shamrocks.

Up at 7

So it is 7AM and I am up. not that unusual for me especially in the summertime, but what is strange is the fact that I went to bed and then woke up at 6. I need to be up a few times this week. Tomorrow I need to call my boss about work, which has been disbanded since the end of June. And then on Tuesday I have a meeting for a scholarship. I got the scholarship last year and it payed for everything, there’s no reason I shouldn’t get it again this year.

My father came to look at the house and he hasn’t gotten back to us yet as to whether or not he can get the mortgage. If he can’t get the mortgage than we will have to fix up the house as best as we can, as cheap as we can. Hopefully he buys it so we can be out as soon as possible, and my grandmother won’t have to be upstairs for long.

I guess that’s about it for now, I am working on some more ideas and have a few more things I want to add, but I don’t know how I want to do it just yet.

Halo 2 Stats

Okay first an update on personal life: My father hasn’t come to look at the house yet, but said that he will stop by tomorrow to look round. Structurally there is nothing wrong with it, just cosmetic stuff. Everyone knows in order to prevent paint from peeling you use a primer, same thing with wallpaper, when they built the house, they didn’t prime anythingm so we have paint peeling and wallpaper peeling. Not to mention the fact that one of the dogs always goes on the carpet, making them smell really bad.

My dog’s test came back that the tumor wasn’t cancerous so she has a few more years to go. Very Happy My grandmother has pnumonea, though, and she is on oxygen at the rehab Sad Now onto site news.

I know that Gristly will be very happy that I have put Halo 2 game stats in the Me section of the site. I am hoping I can get the source code for them so I don’t need the flash, or host them on my site, but for now they are there. I also included my and Gristly’s clan, the Prostitutes in the stats section. It seems like this site is coming along better than my previous ones. I had to buy a new scanner today, I got an HP all in one printer, copier, scanner. It was cheaper than any of the single scanners I saw online or in the store.

Tell me what you want to see here. I will have a new section up soon, but for now it is time for me to take the trash out, get the mail, and head for some more Halo.

Chatroom is Up and Running

Okay so I got the official LepsLair chatroom up and running. It is a java applet that connects to IRC. Thanks to PJIRC for that.

So we took my dog to get her nails clipped and the vet felt a lump in her stomache, it turned out to be a tumor. She had surgery and is coming home today, but they aren’t sure if the tumor is malignant or not. She could die in six months if it is cancerous. Sad

We all dream of greatness, of doing something that will let our legend live on even after we are gone. Maybe that’s why I keep making websites, hoping that one day I will make something great. We always hear stories of those who overcome the odds and do something that makes them unique. I overcame the odds with highschool, but it doesn’t make me unique, many people have. If any of you don’t know what I’m talking about, then take a few hours and watch the movie Rudy. Then look at your life and consider why you are where you are. Are we where we are supposed to be? Or are we here because we made some decisions and took chances and opportunities? Or are we here because of destiny? If you say that we are here simply due to destiny then I pose this question to you? What about the homeless people? What about people who struggle everyday of their lives, never to get ahead? Do you really think that destiny put them there? What makes you so special that you aren’t living in a cardboard box in december in the middle of New York? Listen to advice, take chances, take every opportunity that presents itself, and just remember that we can all be remembered for something, don’t ever give up on that dream.

All Systems Go

[Edit]So the new graphic in the spiderman section looks pretty good. I think I may stick with image maps from now on. [/Edit]

Wow two days in a row. Maybe it is going to become a trend? Who knows? Well My desktop is up and running and I got the main software I need on my laptop to do this away from home. Now I don’t plan on filling my laptop up with over the top software like Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, instead I have EditPlus, WsFTP, and the GIMP. While reinstalling everything I realized just how much of the stuff I use is open source. I use GAIM instead of AIM and Yahoo!, FileZilla as my main FTP client, FireFox as my browser, Magic ISO, and occasionally mess around with Ubuntu Linux Live CD. Maybe one day when I can natively run Photoshop and the rest on Linux, I’ll completely switch, but for now it looks like I’m stuck with Windows.

So my grandmother says she is feeling better, after having been diagnosed with gout and discovering she is in congestive heart failure. It’s good that she is feeling better. Hopefully I won’t have any unplanned trips to the ER during the semester, otherwise my laptop is going with me and my homework will get done. That probably isn’t such a bad idea considering last semester I waited until the last minute, literally. The day before everything was due (everything was due on a Tuesday) I was up all night studying and doing multiple programs and essays at a time.

Now with everything settling down and the semester starting in a few days, I will be working my ass off to remember what I learned in the previous two semesters. If anyone out there in internet land knows how to do objects in C++ could you send me a message and give me a crash course? Laughing If not, no sweat, I should be fine with it though (I hope).

Quick update

So I’ve been up all night these past few nights working on a new page that should have been up a few days ago. The writing section is basically the poems and the blogs and when I get enough for an archive, the archive of the blogs, and any other writing I plan to put up.

As for the home life, my grandmother is still in rehab, and my father should be coming over today to see if he wants to buy the house. We found a place that would allow us to customize the home to the T and now we’re on a waiting list. If we move to this place, it is about 3 miles from the beach and has a pool (I know kind of pointless when your so close to the beach, but its a good place to meet your neighbors).
