E3 2009 kicks off on Monday with the Microsoft Press Conference, that I will be talking about after I watch it (hopefully live). There are a lot of rumors and ideas going around that have people talking, so I am going to address some of these rumors and start some of my own.
Microsoft obviously has a huge advantage when it comes to consoles sold along with games sold. I think we will see more about the new Tony Hawk game and the new skateboard controller. On top of that, I think they will be showing off the new DJ controllers for DJ Hero or Scratch.
There’s a lot of rumors going around that Microsoft will be debuting a motion control controller, even if it is just for the arcade games. I don’t think that is the case, however. I think they may do more with the camera, more games like “Your in the Movies”, but I don’t think it will be anything new that we haven’t seen from them before.
As far as games go, the huge exclusives they have coming out this year are Halo 3:ODST and the Grand Theft Auto The Ballad of Gay Tony. It wouldn’t surprise me if they showed a Gears of War 3, or even Halo, though honestly I think since this is a Halo year we’d be more likely to see a new Gears game at next year’s E3.
They’d be idiots not to show Final Fantasy 13 and Assassin’s Creed 2, but to show offa Left 4 Dead sequel, or even an expansion pack would personally blow me away. They would also be fools not to show Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.
I think the biggest exclusive they have is God of War 3. Of course, I am sure there will be an expansion of some sort to Playstation Home, and the reassurance from them that they will prevail, when we all know that all signs point to failure at this point. I think we might see some more syncing up with the PS3 and the PSP. In all honesty I don’t think we will be seeing anything ground breaking.
Again, they’d be fools to not show off some games that aren’t going cross platform, like Dead Rising 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and the new Tony Hawk Game. Maybe show some downloadable games that are exclusive to the Sony store as well. I think it might be a little soon to announce DLC for “Infamous”, but I don’t doubt they will if they have to.
I think the rumored PSP redesign and maybe, based on Sony’s reaction to the leak, a new PS3 redesign as well. They can’t take out the Blu-Ray player, but if they can somehow do the redesigns and do a price cut, then I think it would help them out a lot.
Nintendo has huge console sales, and they will tell you that, just like they have for the last few E3’s. I think we will see more Wii Motion Plus games, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some new Mario or Sonic games. I would like to see more games for online play. The Conduit looks amazing, and if I can play online with my Wii, I think that would be amazing. I don’t like the idea of friend codes though, I don’t even know what mine is and I don’t know how to look it up.
I think the new style of Madden will be shown off, maybe a Wii hard drive so we don’t need to keep track of the SD cards anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if they showed off more party games, or some new Wii peripheral of some sort, or even more games to go with the Wii Balance Board. There’s rumors of Wii Fit Plus, that might be interesting, but honestly I’d like to see something a little more like Wii Weight Training where you can put the Wiimote in a weight or something like that.
Those are my predicitions for E3 2009, I guess we will have to wait until next week to see how accurate, or completely inaccurate I am.
