 | Neo always knew something was wrong with the world that he lived in, only thing he knew was that it was something called the Matrix. He is believed to be the one who will save mankind from the machines. Neo isn't sure, until Morpheus gets kidnapped by Agents and Neo knows that he must save him.

 | Trinity is Morpheus' second in command. The Oracle told her she would fall in love with the One, so when Neo died it was her kiss that brought him back, and made him fully believe that he was the One. Neo returned the favor when she was shot, but couldn't do it again when she was impaled. Her final words to Neo was for a kiss, and it ended as it began.

 | Morpheus is the captain of the Nebuchadnezzar. The Oracle told him that he would find the One. Morpheus put all his trust in believing that Neo is the One. He believed it so much that he was willing to give his life for it, but was rescued by Neo and Trinity.

 | Cypher was one of Morpheus' crew members. Morpheus freed him nine years ago, but Cypher wants to go back. He makes a deal with the agents that they could have Morpheus if they put him back in the Matrix. He kills most of Morpheus' crew, but is then killed himself. The reason he did it is because "ignorance is bliss".

 | Niobe is captain of the Logos and former flame of Morpheus. When she went to the Oracle, she told her that when the time came, Niobe would help the One succeed his goal. She gave her ship to Neo and Trinity against her superior's wishes.

 | This family of programs is what makes Neo realize that machines can be reasoned with. Two programs have produced a daughter, and they want to sneak it into the Matrix. They tell Neo that they love their daughter, saying that love is just a word and it is the deep meaningful connection they feel with Sati. Neo learns from them that machines have learned what it is to love, this means that he can appeal to them as he would anyone else.

 | The Oracle can see the future. She knows that Neo is the One, and she tells him what she needs to, so that he can end the war. She knows there's been six versions of the Matrix, and she knows of the war which she wants there to be peace. She's a motherly figure, baking cookies, watching over her children, so it is no wonder that she is considered the mother of the Matrix. When Sati is smuggled into the Matrix, it becomes to dangerous for her to keep her old shell and takes a new one because she feels that it is worth it.

 | The Architect sees all that there is to see inside the Matrix. He is the creator of the Matrix. He doesn't want Neo to succeed in freeing humans, but rather do what the others did and just accept their fate. He'd rather get rid of the One all together, but can't due to humans need for choice.

 | Agent Smith is Neo's equal. He is the Matrix's way of balancing the equation of the One. He wants more than what he has though, he wants out of the Matrix. He has grown tired of humans and refers to them as a virus on the planet.
